If the chip dies, who cares - it will be emulated anyway. I will record the data steam before removal. What's more - I really want to know what happens with that chip missing.

Keep me in the Looper on this, please... I'm gonna get a working 5.1 desk at some point for myself, come Hell, High Water, Pestilence... whatever... I don't have the right tools anymore to lend a hand here (oscope, emulator, siggy gens, etc), but I'll help out however I can... this is THE single Hot Button item of my existence anymore... I keep railing, but ultimately I'd love to see the OSv5.1 code base to be Open Sourced...

Of course, you knew it was coming... so here it is:

I'd prefer the OS solution too. Maybe we could get the d8b to save the eq "B" settings in the session file then - but this is another story.

Hi all, Why don't we (the over 800 members of this forum) offer to buy the OS from Mackie? Maybe also the schematics and a list of the source companies for the spare parts?

Have a blessed day,

I don't think this is possible since the CODE GENERATOR of the OS5.1 at Mackie does not work any longer. This story started due to this code generator problem otherwise we would have been happy to buy ONLY the license. Well will have to see what is next...

Hi all, If we buy the source code we can eliminate the license function and we won't need a code generator. It's in their best interest to sell it since they don't have the ability to sell licenses anymore.

I'd like to take issue with both of these statements.

The code generator does exist....but not in Woodinvile. It still works. Mackie still has the ability to generate new and replacement license codes. They choose not to.

My attitude is that if they are truly done with this product, they should do the right thing and make the code open source.

So can't someone get in touch with the people that created the code generator? :?: :?: :?:

Regarding open source......someone at Mackie has to dig into the software code and open it for everyone. I believe that Mackie has to assign someone to do it and i don't think they will want to put their human resources on this issue just to give the software for free. Secondly most of the techs (if not all) that were present during the d8b days are no longer working at Mackie, so they might have no qualified people to do so or else there are good techs that can do this but it takes time...and time is money.

Are they bound by LAW to give a working product to people that bought the license online and was a faulty license? Most of us have been refunded back. Once refunded, this means that the case is closed or if we still want the product they have to get a working code generator? Is there a law that says something for consumer rights?

On a second thought, If there is a code generator that works, Mackie has to buy it again and I think there is a software license for them to buy in order to make use of the Code generator....again it depends how much it costs and if couple of V5.1 licenses make it worth it for them.

Well just some thoughts. HOWEVER i desperately want that V5.1.

Not so sure, Frank. I asked them to give me my codes again and all were correct except for OS 5.1.
