Mackie control vs mackie hui

Postby Rutah » Fri May 08, 2009 8:47 am

I am using cubase studio 4 and have the option of mackie baby hui, mackie control and mackie hui. I am trying to get my faders etc to operate my cubase but I cannot seem to get it to register in my D8B.

My lightbridge lights up midi out but no midi in. I have midi running from my D8B processor in and out to the lightbridge but it does not seem to be registering. Is there something I need to activate in the D8B to send and recieve midi?

My PC is seeing the lightbridge but I do not think that the lightbridge sees my D8B's midi signal if one is being sent.

The on line light on my LCD screen under HUI mode is off also.

I hope that is enough info :)

For Cubase choose the Mackie HUI control and select the MIDI ports that are connected to the d8b.

In the d8b you have to put the console in HUI mode. You will see a yellow sing at the top of the d8b screen that says "HUI mode on"

Thas has to be enough.

Let us know if it works.

All hooked up not getting midi into the midi source (lightbridge) from the D8B.

HUI mode is on in the D8B screen.

Do the transport work? Do you get MTC reading in the display?

Make sure you have the MIDI ports properly selected in the HUI settings in Cubase.

The correct midi inputs are selected.

The transport does not work.

The display (above the fat channel on the D8B) says " << HUI Channel >> Off Line ->

No MTC reading.

midi is getting out from my lightbridge but no midi is going in... the midi connection seems to be broken. maybe a bad card on the D8B CPU?

Maybe you battery is dead and the BIOS setting has reverted to default. When that happens your MIDI IRQ changes and the MIDI connections do not work.

I suggest you change the battery and after that reset your BIOS settings.

I'm sorry, Rutah, but I'm running out of options here...

Is your MIDI breakout cable the original that came with the board? Standard MIDI breakout cables do not work. Here you have instructions to roll your own.

Double check your MIDI cables and/or connections. Try other cables.
Double check your MIDI settings in the M-Audio Profire Lightbrige setup.
Double check your MIDI port settings inside Cubase, both the ones related to the HUI and for the main MIDI ports.

I hope you can sort it out. It could be the MIDI card is bad but I seriously doubt it.

Could it be that the previous owner have been struggling with the Ethernet and MIDI cards before you got the console?

I found this in the support page:

After installing my Ethernet card - my MIDI card no longer works. Why?

Basically, your motherboard is confused. Pull both MIDI and Ethernet cards from the D8B and boot-up. Then power-down. Add MIDI card and boot the D8B - check MIDI. Power-down. Add the Ethernet card and boot-up - check MIDI and Ethernet functions.

Also try moving the cards to other available slots if necessary - rinse and repeat

And..... It WORKS!!!!!!!

I moved the network and midi cards arround and it works!

Now if I could just get HUI to control more than 8 channels at a time.

Also I have yet to use my ethernet with the D8B... any reason I might need it if everything is unlocked?

Thanks Peter!!
