Well, I think it's the filters, particularly if the MFX verbs are channel inserted. Reverb tails would definitely chatter. They're a PITA.

Yeah kind of odd but not really a chatter more of this sound of compression with the release set fast and as the reverb fades away the noise floor level increases.
As I said I'm hoping that 5.1 which has noise listed as a fix in the release notes will address the problem, everything else on the board is fine.

@ Peter could you maybe send or direct me to a link for shrink-wrap as can't seem to find. :?:

A new Socket 7 compatible unit is dirt cheap on Ebay or anywhere online. It's a great and very cheap way to remove the noise, and give your CPU a cooling boost!

Thanks for the tip! did the fan you use go straight in with no mods? do you maybe have an eBay link?

I used a standard Socket 7 compatible cooler with a copper heatsink. It's an old Ultra unit. I can't find the specific one I'm using, but any Socket 7 HSF that isn't overly tall with a 3 pin power plug will work. Mine has a beefier fan assembly on it than the stock one which warps from the heat and makes lots of noise when powering up.

Mine looks very similar to this, but with copper instead of aluminum.

Thanks for all the information!
Please feel free to advise me on all the D8b tips that you all may take for granted... Regarding channel filters I haven't noticed any detrimental effects with them on but an obvious increase in hiss when off!

Btw. The issue of gain structure, am I correct to set input level to midway (-15) to achieve correct input gain?

I urge you to turn the channel filters off. They are misnamed. They are pathetic, uncontrollable gates. There's an item in the database about them here. If you have hiss, it's the external stuff you have plugged in, not the d8b.

ShrinkWrap is here

I can't test the link 'cos I'm on X. If you google "ShrinkWrap Mac" you'll find other locations.

Hi, I use my d8b for live performance and I am unable to add a clean reverb effect when i use MFX or Vocal Studio. Can anyone advice me on how to get rid of this horrid noise?

I gotta say, I've never had any noise from the MFX but this is the second time it's been mentioned in the last few weeks. Beats me.

Are you driving the FX hard enough so that the return faders are at a relatively low level?
