New Member would like input..should I keep the D8B?

Hello all,

I've been running the D8B for quite a few years now, and it looks like either the power supply or the motherboard have decided to retire.
Talked with a Mackie repair center, and things don't look promising for parts and wondered if anyone knew of a cost effective way to replace or repair the "external" unit (consoles fine).

Appreciate any info you'd like to throw my way...glad I found this forum.

What Mackie repair center? The best place to get service on one of these is S&X audio in Seattle. What symptoms do you have going on?

I'd called a Mackie Repair Center in Florida. I'd heard of S&X...guess they'll be my next shot. The symptoms are "no boot" or even drive spin up...however the cpu fan does run.

It sounds like it might be something as simple as dead hard drive.

Can you get into the BIOS settings at all to check those out? Hold down the delete key while it powers up. If you can get there, I would think that the motherboard might be OK. Make sure your BIOS settings are set correctly while you are there... if you can get there. The database has all the info you need as to what need to be set depending on which processor you have.

I just added more info to my thread above. As to the formatting, the database will once again come to the rescue.

Thanks so much for the info...knew I'd have to do some reading..no problem. No bios by the way...nothing in the way of a boot sequence..no video...that's why I'd thought it was either the motherboard..or possibly one segment of the power supply.

Wait a sec. If you don't have any video, you should first sort that out.

It have happen to me that the "no video symptom" was in fact dead RAM sticks.

So first fix the video and work on from there.

Update...the drive does spin up...so next is the ram (thats one I wouldn't have thought of)...I'll let you know..really appreciate the help ..feel welcome already...

Yep, what Peter said. This is the first mention of the video issue. You may not be as bad off as you think. The drive spinning up is a good sign I guess. Bad RAM can cause all sorts of oddities.
