Hello everyone, I guess I,m late to the party and I have recently purchase my second D8B which was kinda by mistake actually. Well I had went to sellers house to originally purchase a yamaha 01v mixer for a small setup of mine, when I arrived I noticed he had a d8b for sale too! Well cut along story short this guys stuff looked like new in fact it was new he had not used the 01v and it was as new and the d8b had been used for one album, it's condition was like new.
After further enquiries I found that he wanted only £300 more for the d8b than he was asking for the 01v!!! Well the rest is history and here I am.
Second time around I'm even more impressed than I was originally I cannot get over the sound, my Adam A7 and Genelec 8040's sound like totally different speakers!
I can only put it down to one thing... This d8b has the Appogee clock card, I mean bloody hell I had know idea!
Anyway the desk has two mfx so I have vocal studio thingy and ver 3 os so I'm definitely looking to purchase ver 5.1 as soon as someone can answer two small concerns.
1. Is there a way to use a modern Mac to create 5.1 disks, because I can't find any information.
2. I notice a lot of noise from the mfx reverb tails! Please tell me 5.1 cures this. I don't remember it on my old d8b which had 5.1.
Anyway all in all I'm a happy camper even the CPU noise doesn't seem to bother me as much this time.
Just though it would be nice to know that the d8b is still being appreciated 13 years after its introduction.

If you still have that first d8b of yours, you can very well get that 5.1 OS over to your new console by changing one print-card. It's easy! Just remember to find your serial key first...

Hi, that first one has long gone now, I have no problem forking out for the upgrade just want to know how to do it with osx!

Not sure what to tell you on the OS with OSX but the MFX verb trash sounds a bit worrisome.

I replaced the stock CPU fan with an Ultra Socket 7 Copper HSF. It's a much beefier unit than the stock one, and the fan noise goes away completely. A new Socket 7 compatible unit is dirt cheap on Ebay or anywhere online. It's a great and very cheap way to remove the noise, and give your CPU a cooling boost!

No. The last time this could be achieved was with a Mac that could run OS 9, a USB floppy drive and a utility called ShrinkWrap which can be found if you hunt around.

Hi Peter yes I guessed as much I have access to os9 but shrinkwrap does not work using a USB floppy drive, thanks for the confirmation.

My channel filters are set to on.

Channel filters should be set to "off". If they're on, that's why you're hearing the noisy reverb tails.

ShrinkWrap is the only way you can make the floppies on a USB drive. I've used it many times.

I got a feeling there more to this than filters. I say that because his old console was clean according to his original post. Worth a shot though. I have never turned my filters off and I have never had issue but then again most of my stuff is fairly loud pop and rock stuff....
