D8b won't boot - Error 43 - Help needed

Postby Zarg » Mon Jul 14, 2014 8:01 pm

I have a Digital 8 Bus that I use alot. I have already spent over £300 this year on getting it fixed, and really don't have the money to spend on what appears to be a new problem today.

I used the d8b for around 15 hours (as usual) yesterday, and turned it off at 5 o'clock this morning when I finished my session. I switched it back on at around midday, but the operating system does not load up and I get the following message on the VFD:

"System Error 43 - Host did not boot!
Check Computer Rack or call Tech Support"

on the monitor that is plugged into the d8b the following text is 'stuck' on the screen:

"Starting TCP/IP Socket Layer
Enabling Windows 2000 (tm) Compatability Layer
C++ Initializers called
Keyboard inited
FTP Ready
Application Frame Installed

I have put replaced the battery on the mortherboard, but this did not make a difference. I have also checked the Bios settings which appear ok.

Any help as to diagnose/fix this would be much appreciated.

a) Check and recheck your BIOS settings!
b) Try rebooting it (several times, if necessary) and see if that doesn't do it.

Post back here...

I have rebooted more than 20 times, checked the Bios settings, changed the battery, reseated the RAM - but still no change.

Does anyone else have anny suggestions as to what might be wrong here?

You might consider re-installing the operating system & any ancillary updates (if applicable). Kinda Draconian, but it's a procedure that's cleaned up more than a few odd issues for forum users here. I'm certainly not gonna state with 100% absolute credence this'll be the solution in your case, but it does sound like something that's been overcome with a re-install... search the forum and you'll see for yourself...

I had a similar problem a few years back.
In my case the HDD was gone bad but I was able to save a lot of session data.
Only the session I was working on when it crashed was lost.
If you have the possibility to check another harddrive before formatting the old one I would give it a try.

Cheers

Hi Zang
I have the same problem, did you just replace the hard drive as I don't have the codes for the 5.1 software etc. Is this an easy job to fix?

If you can get the hard drive to spin up attached to some other computer, you can pull the unlock codes off it. The instructions for saving them are in the database. Then you can install a new hard drive, install the software, and enter the unlock codes.
