All my faders are dead , please help

Postby Dj Boogy » Sat Mar 29, 2014 8:18 pm

Hi,
My D8B purchased 10 years ago is now is acting really strange

• Loud humming noise coming from the speakers
• The pan pots are randomly changing value
• The GUI can’t control the faders anymore
• In the GUI I can see the value of the pan pots change
• No audio is coming in or out, I only hear this humming noise
• Sometime when I reboot it ask me to re-authorize the version 5.1 OS ( which I don’t have anymore )
• It gives me the error: DSP Control Card not ready. Last Known State: Reset
• The first OPT-8 card for Tape 1-8 is not recognized
• Faders are not moving, they all seemed dead
• Pan pots on HUI barely can control the GUI

Things that I’ve done:
• Cleaned and reseated :
o the big circular connection
o the ribbon cable going to the main board
o The ribbon going to the
o The 3 OPT-8 cards
o The Apogee Card

• Reboot the CPU without :
o The Apogee Card BNC cable connected
o The speakers connected
o The Board connected
o The digital in and out connected
o No digital signals are coming in

• The world clock is set to internal
• Changed the Sampling rate from 48 KHz to 44.1 KHz
• Consulted this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=830

What Happened?

I was doing the mixing on a project , then I left for lunch, when I came back an hour later, it was doing that annoying humming noise , the pans were acting weird , the faders were offline or something , so I decided to reboot the console ( which I didn’t do for almost a week ) . It gave me all the errors that I’ve already described above and , since then , the sound never came back .
I hope it’s not the dreaded rail cap , but I would love to get my console back in shape .
Can somebody help me please ?

I reckon it's the rail cap scenario but I also think you may have had a power surge which could mean other stuff is damaged. This will be a send it in for service job.

I suppose you could check to see if any fuses in the power supply are blown. That would be a start.
