Single dead fader (channel 2)

Postby Sid » Mon Mar 03, 2014 8:02 pm

I have a d8b, it is working well and fine. No CPU problems, I am using it as a DAW controller.

It seems as though I have a problematic / dead fader. #2 only, everything else is working fine. But its not "dead" per se, I still get fader value change messages from it when I move it, but when approaching inf dB I can feel the motor trying to "grab" it and send it all the way down. It does not respond to move requests.

I've checked the rail caps on this board, (C101 and C102 respectively for this channel) and they appear fine, it's a REV3. I checked the ribbon cable and it too appears to be OK.

Where should I look next? Seems funny that I can read its value, but its not seeking to it correctly - kind of points to a controller issue. But is it going to be U101 / U102 or the brain board?

Is there a drop-in replacement single motor fader?

Thanks!
Sid

I'd Remove n Reinstall the offending channels fader... if you're adept with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, it's not that big a deal... and there are faders available on eBay for a reasonable fee...

Peace

Yeah, I guess I was grasping hoping somebody might say its 'simply this!"

Can anyone suggest a reliable (preferably North American) source for a single fader, or its equivalent?

Thanks!

Hi!

I would first try to switch 2 faderboards to see if it is a bad fader or if the faderboard itself is the problem.
Just switch the ribbon cables of faderboard 1 & 2 and check if the problem still occurs.

Cheers

I've pretty much sussed it out to be a dead fader maloik. I went to swap the ribbon cables from 9-16 over to 1-8 but they just wouldn't reach. I ended up pulling 9-16 and swapping the entire board (1-8 / 9-16) and sure enough fader 10 was dead.. Swapped it back and I'm back at square one, at least its not the brain board! Its either gotta be that fader, or some thing on the board related to fader #2, though I highly suspect the fader itself.

Anyone have a part # of a non OEM (or OEM) replacement? Thanks!

Sid.
