Dear All,

At times im experiencing some problems to shutdown the mackie d8b. Sometimes i do a shutdown and the prompt saying ARE YOU SURE YES OR NO does not appear. Sometime the Fluoro LED screen is dead and then when i switch off the mackie next time round it asks for the boot disk. Then i have to reinstall the OS from the begining--a headache.

Can you please help?

I am having similar problems, and wondering if you solved yours. When I start my d8b from cold boot up, the fluorescent display will not illuminate. If the display won't light, then the screen gives me one of 2 errors. If the unit finishes booting up to the GUI, then I get a message that the d8b wants me to enter all the auth codes. If during the boot up process, the solo light does not blink, I get a message that the DSP board has no power. If I leave the d8b alone for 5 minutes and then the fluorescent screen comes alive. I then shut down and restart. Fluorescent screen now lights and the unit boots up fine. Trying to figure out if this is a fluorescent display problem or a ribbon cable problem. I am wondering if anyone has ever successfully replaced the fluorescent display with an LCD one? Anyone for help please?

i did the ribbon cable solution and also installed the OS from the beginning....works fine

I did some research on this. Flouro screen does not come on at boot up which interferes with the boot up process and causes the bootup to fail. Leave the unit on for 5 minutes and when the display comes alive, then reboot. I thought the problem was in the console or the display itself. Recently bought a new used console on eBay. hooked it up to my CPU that I already have and same problem. That means the issue is in the CPU/PSU. The culprit turns out to be one or several capacitors that are located in the Power Supply section of the CPU. They look like upside down black trashcans. They loose their ability to retain a charge over time and that is why the display won't come alive at startup. If you take the cover off the power supply section of the cpu, you will find actually two separate power supplies. One for the computer incased in a silver box, and the other is the console power supply. Look at the pictures on the database page at sonida7.com If any of these capacitors look like they are leaking or are bulged out at the top, then they need to be replaced. There are 4 inside the CPU and another 4 inside the console where the BFC connects to a circuit board on the upper left hand side of the console when it is upside down with the cover off.

You don't need to do the shut down routine, just turn the thing off with the power switch on the cpu. The shut down thing is useless.

I'm going to try to reconnect the ribbon cable to fix my display too.
