some battery/OS questions

1a. Can I replace the motherboard battery without resetting the BIOS?
1b. Which signs should I look after to discover a "flattening" battery?
1c. How long is the normal lifetime for a battery?

2. I bought my machine used a couple of years ago. What should I do IF I need my OS (v5.1) replaced?

To answer your questions

1a -- No --- although I suppose that it could be done by using jumper leads and a second battery (ie not the one being inserted), but it would be quite touchy and you could quite easily cause something to go wrong.

1b -- Things not starting up correctly, previous session settings not being held, etc The data bases will have somthing on this.

1c -- No real answer on this one as it varies from machine to machine and battery to battery, but I would say two to three years tops. Its a bit like a car battery, some fail a day after the guarantee poeriod, others go for a number of years.

2 -- Why would you need your OS replaced? To get a new one or to have an old one authorised, you need to contact Mackie Support and they can give you the required information, but you will need yoiur console's ESN. The data base on either this forum or the main d8B forum on Mackie's web site, will have information on this matter.

I just thought that it would be smart to have the OS by hand in case everything just crashed. Thank you for enlightening me on this matter!

Well, then it's out to get that BIOS on disc. I just wanted to check if it was a way around it.
