Mac/Logic > ProFire Lightbridge > D8b via OPT-8

Hi All,

Just getting my D8B set up.

If I buy an M-Audio ProFire Lightbridge :

Will that allow me to connect 3 of the ProFire's 4 optical outs to three OPT-8 cards in my Mackie, to achieve 24 seperate channels from logic into seperate channels on my D8B (obviously once setting all the software up to do that)?

I just want to double check before ordering!

I would suggest the second one since it has the more standardized sync connections to connect to the apogee word clock of the d8b(if you have one). If you don't I suggest picking one up. Your mixes will thank you in the long haul.....so will your nerves! haha!

I'm very new to all this. Is there a good write up somewhere which explains what I get by going to the Apogee clock card?

yeah that's the one. Check out the database for al the info you'll need on clock cards . There should be a link on the main page of this section of the forum.

I have not looked up the price of the card on offer, but if casey says that it is about the right price, then I would not do as casey suggests, but would buy it ASAP as the cards are becomming very hard to find.

However, before you buy. On your desk, do you have a clock card that either says "Apogee" and has both an inpout and output BNC plug, or where the clock card fits, is there just a flat piece of metal.

If the latter, undo the screws holding the plate and look inside to see if there is any card at all.

If either no card at all or there are not the two BNC plugs, then definitely buy the one on offer.

re the M-audio box, I do not know the unit, but if it has optical outs and you can connect the units inputs to your Logic programme, then you can connect the M-audio unit to the d8B via the OPt-8 cards --- one light-pipe cable per M-audio unit and OPT-8 card, to give you the 24-tracks of audio (ie you will need three units and three cards) these will appear on Bank 2 of the desk. I will ask, how are you going to connect the M-audio box to logic to get 8-tracks playing back intoi the M-audio unit

Re your last question, I don't fully understand that.

Do you mean "how am I going to get 8 seperate tracks out of logic, and into the M-audio"? if so, I'm expecting to be able to select the M-Audios individual "outs" from within logic and assign tracks to them.

Have I misunderstood the question?

It is posdsibly my lack of knowledge on the M-audio box, but if your PC only has its standard sound card outputs, then I would have thought that you would only be able to get two outputs from the PC at any one time.

If I get the chance later today, I will look up the M-audio unit and see its specs and this could answer my question.

The Presonus Lightpipe will definitely do what you want it to. Looks like you'll also be able to use the midi function to control your transport for your DAW via the d8b.

I say go for it!!!

EDIT: If the board has booted up fully and you've been able to pass audio through it, which is what was stated in your other thread. It more than likely has the stock wordclock card. If it didn't I don't think the board would work at all. Now the stock wordclock card will not do you any good in syncing to other equipment. An Apogee WC card is still needed.

I still say go for it!!!!
