Can't write automation

Postby sverred » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:59 pm

Hi everybody! First poster here...

I've been in possession of a d8b for some years now, but only resantly have I started using it for what its worth. I run a d8b with 3 x DIO-8 ADAT cards, a mfx card, and with my computer running Samplitude as my recorder. I've been a silent observer of this and the mackie forum, and I have gained a lot of info and knowledge from you guys - Thanx!

My system seems to work stabile, and I haven't had any errors after excluding the weakest links, be it word clock cable, sound card or whatever.

Now I have ran in to some troubles I just can't seem to find my way out of, though... When I try to write automation, nothing gets remembered. The 'Write' buttons lights up if I press them, but not if I try to write automation with 'auto write'. Even so, there's no difference in the result - no automation... The d8b remember the settings in each layer when I switch inbetween, and if I move a fader on screen it will move on the console and vica versa etc. The only thing is that it just don't write my automations for some reason. And it's frustrating!

So i've tried everything I can think of, and I did the "delete start-up file" trick etc. Same result.

Is there a easy way out of this I just don't know of?

They say the fastest way to learn something is to do it wrong first. Well....

well,

I have sorted it out, after a long struggle...

Don't know if this concerns anyone else here, as Samplitude may not be the most used audio recording engine around, but here's how I finally managed to get it back to normal:

1. In Samplitude I noticed that if I put the MTC out sync on (or 'active') the transport control stopped working on the d8b. If I rather put any other sync options on, the transport worked, but the 'sync out' disappeard. Anyway, the automation wouldn't work anyway.

2. I was almost sure that MTC output sync should be activated, so I started checking out how to get the Midi controlling back. At least, with the MTC output activated the sync "light" was on, and that should be a good thing. (I also remembered from prior to this episode that MTC out is good...hehe.)

3. This was the trick that did the magic: First go to the syncronisation window> activate MTC output. Then you go to the device setup> Hardware controllers > remove your Mackie HUI preset. Add new preset, and choose Mackie HUI again.

Somehow the sync window interfere with the Hardware controller settings. Strange, but now it's working, so I guess I should be happy...?! After all I know I leard something new in my search for better times...haha.

see ya!
