I think this one is destined for the "we'll never know" files, Joe.

for some reason this post has made me look at things diffrent.
and I will be the first to say that I was bad for the samething. I was always so happy to get my problems fixed
that I would not think about the people that helped me solve my problem and let them know its fixed and what caused it.
and most of all the people that help fix things should at least be told if what thay said to do helped with the problem.

don't get me wrong I never ever forget when someone helps me out with my problems but I too was bad for not letting the people that helped me no what the problem was. but since this post I will make shure that I let the people that helped me
no what the problems was or what fixed it.

this may sound funny but its funny when you can be so happy about getting your problem solved that we don't think about the person that helped us or let them no what fixed it so other people can see it if thay have the same problem.

it took me a long time to understand this and like I said this poster made me look at things diffrent. so I would like to apologize to everyone that has ever helped me one way or the other for not letting you no if what you said helped.
as of today this is going to change for me. becuse I do like everyone's help and input on anything. and without you people and this great forum my d8b would be no good to me.

thank you all for putting up with me over the years. sham on me but I will do better from now on.

Hi michael

I shure do remember and since you loaned me five buck Im just going to charge you a small percentage 22%
since you have been so good for this forum Im not going to charge you 30%

22% should fill my car up with gas. Im sorry I was wrong since gas is so high 22% will only get me a half a tank.
so Im going to have to raise it up to 33% to fill my tank up  so maybe the next time you loan me five dollers
you will just give me the five dollers. it will be cheaper for you.

So, things are -f'd up in my life right now...

Here's the deal. The tape input i was referring to was the 3 aux tape ins, not the tape returns on adat cards. we still have no input. one of my partners spent a considerable on the phone with mackie trying to do a root cause analysis. nothing.

next i did the things you folks suggested.

now im going to visit the only mackie auth repair shop here in Mass. Boris just so happens to be an acquaintance of ours.

I'm really saddened by this as the guy i bought it from is cool and tested it before dismantling it to move. : (

Jxb,

When I (I think it was me) refered to the Tape Inputs, it was the three you have described. These three inputs go straight to the monitor section and bypass all the digital routing and digital requirements.

It definitely sounds to me that you do not have ANY installed clock card and without a clock card the only part of the desk that will pass signal is the three tape inputs you describe.

I think that someone requested that you look at the rear of the console and see if there is a card with two BNC connectors, the card will be labeled something Apogee Clock Card, if you can not see this card, then there should be a single slot with a plain cover (I am not at my desk but I think the slot is labeled something like "Clock"). If you remove the cover from this slot, there should be installed a card --- remove the card and check that it is the standard Mackie clock card (will have some writing detailing thre type of card).

Unfortunately, if there is neither the Apogee card or the standard Mackie clock card, then the desk simply will NOT now or ever work. There have unfortunately been a number of desks sold where the seller has removed the various cards and flogged these at inflated prices on Ebay and the poor unsuspecting buyer has purchased a desk that does not work, then has to try to find the required cards and pay the inflated price.

The desk when as new was sold by Mackie with the standard Mackie clock card and it should have been sold to you with this card supplied--- in my opinion, even if it has the Apogee card fitted, the Mackie card should still have been included. When I eventually sell my desk, ALL cards I have purchased will be included, as I believe that these form the desk I will be selling.

If there is either of the clock cards present and you have no sound, then (assuming no "finger trouble") you have a failed card. I am sure that Mackie do not have any cards left and you will have to try to find one on EBay or similar.

If there are no clock cards, I would be going back to the seller and demanding to know why the console was sold without a clock card and I would then demand either the card/s be passed to you or your money returned in full --- I would also try to hit him for freight and any other expenses you have incurred as a result of his fraudulent and dis-honest sale.

When you say that the console was "tested", did you actually ewitness the console working and passing sound through a Mic (Bank 1) or Line/Digital Tape input (Bank 2) or was it that the seller said that it was tested. Also, excatly what you you mean by "dismantling it to move"? was it just the unscrewing of the big plug/lead and data cable, or was something else done --- ie were any cards removed?

Sorry if I am the bearer of bad news, but I hope you get some form of satisfaction. Let us know how you get on.

Jxb,

Further to my posting a few minutes ago.

If you find that there is no clock dard present and the seller will not do anything, I have just discovered that there are two apogee cards currently being offered on Ebay. quite expensive, but !!!!!!!!!!

Check the sellers and their location, one could be the person from whom you purchased the console.

Hey everyone:

It is marked sync as Peter mentioned. If he is getting bank two and aux whatever... he has a sync (clock) card unless the aux inputs bypass the converters, which I do not remember. From memory, the two-track inputs are the only inputs that bypass the converters. As far as I know the converter routing switches with bank and input control settings, to me it seems there is a routing issue via a switch or setting not right for the input selection on bank one not to work, or a "global" ribbon or part failed or got disconnected that runs the whole input converter process either from the input jacks to the converters or from the converters to the digital side of mixer. (the knee bone's connected to the thigh bone... type of deal)

I have "almost" always used the digital inputs with my d8b so I am not so familiar with the analog ins. I hope to get a patchbay wired soon to utilize these additional inputs just because they are there and it would make the desk much more flexible... (kinda giving up on the digital purity thing and going for the vibe and usability of this mixer.)

So WHY or really WHAT WOULD cause bank one not to show any input signal is the question I think jzb is wanting to know.

Hopefully Boris knows about these boards and can trace it out and get it fixed. It would also be a benefit to find the reason why and for jzb to post it, but most repair guys don't want to give that up. Anyway sucks that the board isn't working correctly.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Surely the flashing ?/* or lack thereof on the fluoro display would indicate if a clock card was present or not.
