OPT•8 optical card , same as MIDI in/out?

Hi there, since i'm not that familiar with the whole mackie d8b world, i was wondering....

I have a OPT-8 card in the back of my d8b, Is it possible to connect this to a soundcard which also has OPTICAL IN & OUT puts.
and than USE it to control cubase sx in HUI MODE??? maybe it will go online this time....

I am using on oldskool OPCODE PC MIDI CARD , the thing is
the HUI mode works!!!, but it still show HUI CHANNEL offline!! but the faders, play stop buttons, and everything works, but there is no light on the console and there is no life on screen, no lights in the peak level meters on the monitor

can you help me with this?
