I/O Recognization problem at each startup

Hi,

My D8B (with OS 3.1) is not able to recognize all my DIO-8's or OPT-8's at startup. It shows the slots as "EMPTY".
Not for all slots but 2 of 4 slots minimum, and empty slots are not always the same.

Previous owner of the console has found a solution to fix it: he has plugged an external switch connected to the pins of the mainboard in order to reset console when it is powered up. After pressing the switch and resetting the console (while it is powered up), it recognize immediately all I/O cards.

I started with 2 x DIO-8's when I bought the console (with v.2 chips)
I bought additional 2 x DIO-8's (with same v.2 chips) and also I have 3 x OPT-8's plugged to the HDR 24/96.
I tried many combinations (empty slots, all slots loaded, different card types etc..) same thing happens.

Does it looks like a hardware or software problem?
Do you have any experience about this problem, how to solve?

I did not tried Ribbon Cable Procedure yet, it may be the solution?

I'm afraid I don't like the sound of the reset button but stranger things have worked.

v3.1 was notorious for dropping I/O cards on launch. Even worse, it had the nasty habit of occasionally swapping the order of the inputs (Ch.8 would show up in the Ch.1 slot...Ch.1 would show up in the Ch.8 position....etc.). Aside from the integrity of the modded "reset" switch (which from the description, sounds like a spring loaded momentary...and if a cheap one: contact failure is a possibility), it could be simply 3.1's wankyness.

...Or any number of other things...the ribbon connectors being the most suspect. Less likely, but possibly: dirty card connectors.

I dunno. I hate suggesting something you have to throw money at...but I think it's worth the extra dough to bump the OS up to v5.1, as it provides a carload of longstanding bug fixes that were in 3.1, along with the benefit of some neat extra features and seriously improved Compressor and Gate operation.

I'm sure there will be some more useful suggestions posted.

I can try to load demo version of v5.1 to test if it fixes or not, without paying any money thanks Frank..

I had the same issue, even with 5.1 for a bit. Slot for 1-8 would show empty no matter what I tried.... card swap, different card. It didn't matter. I finally just tried cleaning the card edges and sort of exercising the slot by rapidly inserting and removing the card. I have my doubts as to iff this really fixed the problem, but the issue has not returned for a while.
