New to D8B! Need Help With Setup

Postby awhitebeatz » Sat Jan 12, 2013 1:52 am

Sooooo I've had the D8B for about 2 months now and haven't really used it yet. Bought it for $200 locally and heard about D8Bridge so I was waiting for that but now I need to do some tracking. Only powered it on and played with the buttons and faders. It has 3.0, the VGA card, the Apogee ADAT cards with TDIF etc...Pretty much maxed out and the VGA screen worked good. I don't know how to set it up or anything. I spoke with one member here and he suggested I upgrade to v5.1 to use in HUI mode with Pro Tools. I use Logic and Reason as well. I have a Steinberg MR816X as my interface but I'd rather track through the D8B line inputs because I have quite a few synths and drum machines. Around 18-24 channels and I'd like to track into the line inputs of the D8B and out the ADAT into the ADAT of my 816. Still waiting for D8Bridge for Mac!!!! I've considered selling the 816 for an RME RayDAT but not sure what to do just yet because I do own an iMac and a MacBook Pro and I'd like to be able to use my interface with all 3.

So as of now, I NEED to track into the D8B then into Pro Tools and Logic. Only as a mixer, not a control surface just yet until Marc releases 2.0 for Mac.

Any suggestions???

Read the info but still kinda clueless. I plugged my MPC into the D8B and used headphones to see if I would hear something back but I didn't. Is there something in the software I need to configure? Certain settings on the D8B? I'm not trying to upgrade from V3 unless I HAVE to in order to get it working.

On the D8B you can't hear anything in the headphones until you switch them on in the monitor section.
If you list step by step what you have done so far and what buttons and channels you have pressed it will make it easyer to find out what you need to do.

That's the thing. I have no manual. I owned a 32x8 before I got this board and thought it was plug and play. All I did was power up, plug in my MPC, plugged my headphones into one out of the master outputs. No sound or meters action, thought I'd at least hear one side.. Feels like I'm missing something

A clock card, perhaps? Check the sync slot at the back of the desk. Anything in there?

Yes I have all the cards. To my understanding, it won't even boot up without the card.

I see now there is no card in the sync slot. Is this bad?

Pull the plate off and check to see if there is one in there.

Also all versions of the manual are available for download via the database. I think mackie might still have them as well.

I have checked that before and I remember now it is a card inside of it. I'll post pics when I'm home soon
