My D8B finally needs help!! - SOLVED!!!

Postby bbb » Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:19 pm

Hi Guys,

So... after 14 years..(actually almost 12 - mackie replaced my original d8b in nov of 2000) it won't boot. error 43
Checked bios..all is good..hd is recognized
Reseated all cables and cards.
When I turn on the mixer..after post.. Monitor says mackie os loading..and stays there when error 43 appears on the console

So I'm assuming it's the HD since the OS (5.1) doesn't load.
I do have an old HD stored away with os 3 on it

Any thoughts on what to do next will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce Brody

Thanks Frank and Phil.
My HD was dead. I replaced the battery, put in my old HD with OS 3 and then installed 5.1 on it.
All is well again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dead HD and you switched over to an older backup drive. Glad it worked...particularly the 5.1 reinstall.

Bullet dodged. You may not have neede a new battery...but it sounded like you haven't changed it out in years. It was due.

It's exactly the specter of this scenario that pushed my paranoia button a month or so ago. It prompted me to finally replace my 14 year old IDE drive with an SSD.

There is a thread on this somewhere in the forum if you are nuts enough to try it. It works.
