I may have found another solution. I managed to get the bios file from the motherboard manufacturer, so i can just get a new chip ordered from BIOSman or somewhere like that.

It's my understanding that they're eproms and Mackie had a few master chips and just burnt copies. I know that's what SteveT did with the HDR jobs. Maybe if someone had that facility they could help you out.

I think for a one chip, professional, warrantied job, the school would be more likely to invest in the repair. The school isn't big on spending money for individual people to do work. Even if it's cheaper and more effective.

The only issue is that I am not positive that the bios was not tweaked... Just something to be aware of.

It is a blank canvas and with the proper machine you load the information onto the chip... if your chip was "copy-able" you could copy it and then load it onto another same size/type chip. Or if you know of anyone that has the same MB you could technically borrow the chip and have it copied onto a new chip. This is actually done all the time. I know of many places around here that do this type of work, but I have my favorite place I use.

It is do-able but you need a new same size/type chip and the information to put on it... oh and the machine and know-how.

Hope this helps,
Michael

As it turns out, the standard BIOS was all it took. The replacement chip came today, and it was just a quick drop in installation and i was up and running. Woohoo!
