@mackdaddie: nope tried that already couple of times. I remember this solution helped couple of times in the past though.

@NigelC: Nothing is connected at the moment . no midi no audio,ADAT cables etc.

i think the situation is more serious than this and synthjoe's theory is proven as of tonight. I checked all the ribbons that go to he brain board pin by pin ( yes you can call me desperate ) and they're all fine. and then as synthjoe advised i switch the fader ribbons to different banks to isolate the problem and he was right. after the switch, the new config. was 17-24 acted as 9-16 and somehow doubled the master but i assume that's normal. So the fader banks that had no problem were switched to new banks and continued to work and problematic ones were still problematic on different banks..

I've spent so much time on this and it's unfortunately the same. actually i think we're coming to the end of the diagnonis.

I'd rather think it is the two fader boards - but maybe I've misunderstood your post. If a fader bank works fine in any position, then that fader bank is good. If a fader bank does not work properly in any position, then it is obviously bad. If a fader bank work in one slot but not in the other, then probably your port (brain board) is the culprit. I understood that your 17-24 fader bank worked well in the 9-16 position, so 9-16 port seems to be fine, which leaves us with the fader bank as the suspicious component. Same would go for the other fader bank, I assume.

after booting up, faders 1-24 looks fine but as soon as I press 25-48 button and switch back to 1-24, faders 1-16 starts sticking again.

so you think it's possible for 2 fader banks go bad at the same time somehow ??
the thing is because of the length of the ribbons i couldn't check all the combinations etc. and made an assumption. so at this point I can't easily tell if it's the fader bank or the brain board. but probability of 2 banks going bad all of a sudden is kind of hard i think. i don't know. Just frustrated... and my technician skills unfortunately goes this far ...
I think I have to put my d8b aside. I've started spending more time fixing it than using it. more like windoze ))

There has always been a delay of a few (maybe 5) seconds when changing banks before the faders are operable. Also, any programmed automation will restrict fader movement.

Cables detach at both ends and all three cables are wired straight through... Just saying...
Assumption is a dangerous thing, so I make one only when all other options are exhausted. However, I can fully understand your frustration. I'd happily take a look but I'm afraid the physical distance makes this impractical. Let me know when you decide to throw away the desk, though!

i've decided to put it aside for a while. I feel frustrated even when i look at it right now. i will hopelessly contact the tech support of mackie in istanbul to see if they can come up with a solution, actually a cheap solution .
