new to forum with HDR question

Just joined the forum today. I have been using a d8b for about 10 years now. Got a new problem that I have not seen. I have all 24 channels set to record to a mackie hdr. When I checked the signals to the hdr, about 7 channels on bank 2 did not get a signal. Doubled checked the route to tape path...all was set properly. I tried to get a feedback loop on the second bank by routing a channel to itself...nothing. Other channels worked fine. Any ideas?

Well, I would start by swapping some cards around to see if the problem follows cards or not.....

Thanks...I just cleaned and re-seated all of the ribbon cables inside the board. Forgot about pulling, cleaning and re-seating the cards...that might fix the apogee clock card problem I have had for several years...will keep you informed

Finally got back to the board tonight. Pulled, cleaned and swapped the analog I/O cards...did not fix the problem. But I think I have the problem more closely focused. Channels 41, 42, 43, 44 and 48 are not getting a signal to or from the HDR or from another channel on bank 1 when patched by route to tape. Channels 17, 18, 19, 20 and 24 on bank 1 get a live signal from the stage tho'. I suspect that when I cleaned and reseated the internal ribbon cables, one got mis-aligned or not seated correctly. Any thoughts anyone??

What is this apogee issue you mention?

Two years ago (or so) the LED numbers (time, beats, etc) in the d8b transport section quit working when I play back recorded tracks. The LED panel is on, but all I get are red 00000000s. When I press the play button on either the transport section or the HDR, the HDR works fine: the tracks play, the HDR number counter works, etc. I can fast forward, rewind and record from the transport section or from the HDR front panel, but the LED numbers in the transport stay on 0000000. Another clue is the little green light on the play button (transport section) blinks while i am recording, it does not stay steady. Last night I switched the timing master from the d8b to the hdr. I have the 75 Ohm bnc cable properly routed and the d8b clock is set for world clock and it indicates all is well. The clock light on the HDR front panel is on and steady. This and the 5 channels that I can't record to are the problems I need to fix.

The locator problem sounds like the MMC settings in the HDR are not set properly. My d8b does the same thing when it's not connected to another device, so maybe your d8b is not conversing with the HDR properly.

Have you double check to make sure you don't have either Pre or Post DSP inserts on the channels your having problems with? If not then I would suggest an OS re-install. To make sure your starting with a clean slate.

The timecode issue is clearly MTC (MIDI connection?) borne - the blinking green light indicates that the D8B does not receive a valid MIDI Time Code (MTC). Try to connect some other device to the D8B's MIDI In (a DAW configured appropriately to transmit MTC, for example, or an SMPTE/MTC converter, etc.). Even if you don't press play on the D8B the display should follow the timecode sent by the DAW or the HDR. Maybe it's simply a MIDI cable issue - or a configuration (e.g. device ID) issue, as Casey hinted. For sure (if there's such a thing) it is not a wordclock issue.

Actually, Bones do you have a midi connection hooked up between the HDR and the d8b? A word clock connection by it'self wont do the trick in this case. The MTC is what controls the timecode/playback controls. The Wordclock just keeps your 1's & 0's in line.
