Service Pack 3 -Install hell

Postby widge » Thu Mar 10, 2011 7:58 am

Hi
Im going in a circle here hoping anyone out there can help.
My d8b hd crashed...replaced drive... replaced floppy drive too.
Installed OS 3.0.... all effect missing. Mackie told me to install service pack 3 which will fix the problem.

http://www.mackie.com/products/d8b_v5/d ... ml#plugins

Ok created 3 discs, they don't work. Disc 1 starts to boot up from floppy but 2 mins in I get the message "Time out" in red which is repeated followed by the error message "file i/o in po_read #3m error reading file"

I have created 10 sets of these discs (30 floppies) so far and all of them give me the same message.

Anybody out there know what im doing wrong? Have checked bios and changed battery.....This is killing me :)

Mackie when are you gonna offer a mac solution to creating floppies? -no os x option! So far I have made 10 trips to the pc internet cafe... and still no joy!

Did you extract the image from the disc or unzip, whatever it is called? I did this tap dance years ago and then slapped myself in the head.

Hi widge,

It may be that you'll have to save your sessions and re-install the OS. I think if you don't format the drive the sessions will stay in the folders, but I would save them anyway. It seems this is always a tricky business. Following the instructions to the t is paramount to it working (installing) properly. You also might want to check to see if your bios settings are correct. I remember it being a pain to get to install as there might be a specific order to install the OS, SP3, or something like that. It is one of those things you only do a couple of times so it is difficult to remember. IMHO, I don't think the floppies are bad, I think it is the extraction or something hanging in the CPU. You might do a search in the Mackie forum for "Service Pack 3" or "SP3" --- I think that place imploded but there has been much talk over the years on this very issue.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Well went back to the internet shop to create another set of floppies - service pack3
New discs all formated and created to the mackie specs.

Still no joy, same messages....

file i/o in po_read #3
error reading file

Is there anyone out there with more suggestions in order to get the fx to work?

Maybe your floppy disc reader is in bad shape. Is the error showing up when you insert disc 3 or when the first disc is inserted? Did you make the discs on a PC or Mac?

Hi
The error msg comes up after it starts to read disc 1.
So far the mackie d8b has had a new battery, new hard disc & new floppy drive installed this week.

Just made my 10 set of discs.. disc 1 reads the service pack 3... but after 1 min the desk shows the message "A System firmware control.asc firmware"

Any ideas?

What size HD did you put in the CPU/Rack? The BIOS will only recognize 32 Gig or less.

In the scheme of things, there isn't one... just chaos.

You didn't answered the question: Was it on a PC or a Mac you created your disc sets?
