d8b Panning problem

Postby Carlo » Thu Aug 29, 2019 8:14 am

Dear all,

Maybe you remember my post : 'Frozen V-pots and lifeless faders and no sound'. The culprit was a LINE SURFACE BOARD where a cap was burnt. I managed to get hold of another LINE SURFACE Board and everything was back to normal. HOWEVER i have a problem. All panning pots are behaving not as usual:

On headphones:
When sound enters the channel and gain pot raised NOTHING is heard when the pot is in the middle (MONO). If i turn the pot left or right then sound is heard well but still in mono (in both headphone sides). There is no distinction if its hard left or hard right. The Master LED's are separated well when panning left or right but sound still on both ears.

On main out jacks:

I plugged the headphones on the left main or near-field jack OUT and the sound behaves well on the left. One can hear the instrument on the left ear only. When i did the same on the right jack (plugging the headphones on the right jack), the sound kept on the LEFT of the headphones. The right was silent.

This behavior is on all channels meaning both on the mic line surface and the line surface boards.

Basically its a useless mixer this way. Do you know how can i track this problem?

Thanks for your help
Carlo

Since the headphones work in stereo, they have three connectors: tip/ring/sleeve.
The main output jacks are sending out a mono signal - so they only connect to the tip - that's why you would hear sound only in the left side of your headphones. (I think...)
Do you have monitors you could connect to the mains out, and check out whether panning works?

does all stereo stuff, incl panning left and right work with monitors connected to mains out?
in other words - is the problem only present on the headphone1 and headphone2 outputs?
