I reinstalled OS. I unmounted mixer, Hdr and CPU. Clean all connections with isopropyl alcohol, disassembled and cleaned all the card connections ... unfortunately the synchronization both Midi and wc still does not work.
It is impossible to control HDR from the MIXER commands (D8B).

Running out of ideas now unless a brain board etc has gone down, have you ever had the transport working?

Yes, transportation has always been working. I must say that the HDR and the D8B have been stopped for about a year and a half.

This is for troubleshooting purposes only, and not intended to connect it like this to make it work directly, but here's what I'd try:

I think you said you have a computer with a MIDI interface on it.

If it's a Mac, install a free application called "MIDI Monitor":
https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/

If it's a PC, install a free application called "MIDI-OX":
http://www.midiox.com/app.htm

Connect the MIDI Out from your D8B to your MIDI in on the computer. In either MIDI-OX or MIDI Monitor, make sure that the MIDI port you connected your D8B to is active.

Press one of the Transport control buttons on the D8B. MIDI Monitor/MIDI-OX should show that it received some sort of MIDI command. Probably labeled something like a MMC command (MIDI Machine Control).

If this works, disconnect MIDI between the D8B and the Computer, and instead connect the MIDI Out from your HDR to your MIDI in on your computer, and repeat the same thing above.

Does MIDI-OX or MIDI Monitor receive the same kind of signal (MMC) when you press one of the transport control buttons on your HDR?

If the signal does NOT arrive from one of them, then there's something wrong with MIDI functionality. Could be the external adapter that goes to the 9-pin port, could be the MIDI card, etc.

I'd suggest trying this first, then you at least know if MIDI generally works.

This won't work if you still get the "Error 43", though. That would need to get resolved first.

I'd suggest trying this, and then reporting back. Then we can take it from there.

Good luck!

Thanks Y-my-R, tonight I'll try your advice and then I'll report. Unfortunately I am in total crisis ...

Y-my-R, I did the tests you said, now I'll tell you what I did.
* I have installed MIDIMonitor on the mac
* I connected my Yamaha Midi interface to the Macintosh
* midi cable connected to Mixer output and interface input.
* I pressed play on the mixer.
The signal arrives at the interface but not on the Midimonitor.
I did the same tests with HDR ... unfortunately in this case no signal comes.
I removed the midi card, specifically a MIDIMAN 1x1 card.
I wanted to buy it new but it's impossible to find it because it's too old.
What do you suggest me?

I think it's just this, from my last post:

"...make sure that the MIDI port you connected your D8B to is active..."

By default, the MIDI ports sometimes stay deactivated in MIDI Monitor (and MIDI-OX as well).

If you didn't find this yet, then in MIDI Monitor, click on the little triangle next to the word "Sources" and make sure there's a check-mark next to the MIDI port you have the D8B or HDR connected to.

Also, click on the little triangle next to "Filter" and just uncheck all the stuff that is there. Just to make sure the message the D8B or HDR is sending isn't filtered out.

If this still doesn't give you any results, then I'd connect some other MIDI device to the same MIDI input port (like a MIDI keyboard if you have one), just to verify that MIDI Monitor is set up correctly, to detect incoming signals.

I don't think the MIDI out is bad on BOTH your D8B and the HDR. So, this is most likely just a configuration issue with the troubleshooting tool (MIDI Monitor, and/or recognition of your MIDI interface on your computer).

Ok. I did as you said. The MidiMonitor detects the Midi interface.
The problem :
The D8B is detected and midimonitor records the events, except that when I play the transport window remains still.
instead HDR does not send any midi signal.
HDR is always set to Sample rate 48, even if I change and insert 44.1 KHz, when I turn it on it is still set to 48 KHz.

Oh, that's clarifying a little bit of what's going on, though. What we know now is:

- The D8B is sending transport control commands as it should
- The D8B itself doesn't "generate" a time-code by design. It just waits to receive time-code from elsewhere (e.g. the HDR). So, if you push the play button on the D8B, but the HDR doesn't do anything with the signal, then it's perfectly normal that the Time-Code LEDs on the D8B doesn't move. These two points make it look as if the D8B is functioning normally, when it comes to MIDI and Time-Code sync (at least as far as we can tell, so far).
- That the HDR does not send a MIDI signal, means that the problem seems to be on that side. So, I'd suggest focussing on getting the HDR MIDI to work first (let's address the 44.1 vs. 48 kHz issue later - that's likely a different thing). To be sure, though - if you load a project on the HDR and press play, does the Time-Code display on the HDR move? The HDR DOES generate Time-Code, so different from the D8B, if you press play here, the time-code on the HDR should indeed move. If it doesn't, then it's not just a MIDI issue, but then a more major thing is not functioning right on the HDR (which is likely fixable as well).

Assuming that the time-code does move on the HDR, let's proceed with this:
So, we'll have to figure out where the MIDI failure on the HDR comes from. The first thing I would try, is to connect the MIDI adapter that connects to the 9-Pin sub-D port on the D8B CPU, to the HDR instead and try MIDI Monitor again. Does it show a MIDI signal now, when you press the transport controls on the HDR? If yes, then the adapter you previously used on the HDR is bad, and you need a new one (third party 9-pin sub-d MIDI breakout Adapters from other companies seem to work - for example, I'm using one from an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 PCI card on my HDR and it works... or you could make your own. It's not that difficult if you know how to use a soldering iron).

If the HDR still doesn't send MIDI, please make sure that you're using all the same (proven to be working) MIDI cables for the HDR test, that you used for the D8B test.

If this still fails to send MIDI to the MIDI Monitor app, then it's likely something with either the configuration of the HDR, or hardware (or contacts that need to be cleaned, etc.).

Did you replace the battery in the HDR by any chance, or was there some other reason why it may have lost it's BIOS settings? Then it would be necessary to re-do the BIOS settings for the HDR, as outlined in the Database somewhere.

Or did you possibly move the MIDI card inside the HDR to a different slot? (Don't, if you didn't... I think you might have to configure which IRQ the mainboard uses for each of the slots, so moving the card could cause a problem like this, I think)

...although it may seem to you as if we were not making any progress so far, we actually did. We now know that the issue is likely with the HDR. All of the above assumes that the HDR does have a moving time-code display after loading a project and pressing play. If that's not the case, please let me know... then we have some deeper work to do on the HDR, and not just MIDI.

yes, if I load a project on the HDR and press play, the TIME Code is displayed and actually moves.
I moved and connected the cpu midi adapter to HDR. Midi monitoring gives no signal.
* HDR does not send Midi signals.
* I cleaned all contacts with isopropyl alcohol
* Two weeks ago I replaced the battery and noticed that the MIdi and Ethernet cards were not in their right slot but moved, so I put them back in the right slot.
As for the BIOS settings, I have not checked, I will have to look for directions on the site.

I confirm that the HDR has a time-code display in motion when I press play.
