Hmm... depends what "sketchy" means :-)

Not a bad idea to try a different CPU - but is it one that you know works?

thanks, Anders

sketchy means when it was in version 2.0 I had to keep working by shaking the d8b and I started reading
the d8b book and I just grabbed the mic and it was working then I shut it down to do the CF card and that's when
I could not get any sound even after shaking the d8b. so I will try the other CPU with version 3.0

..... ehm....... "shaking"... the desk??????

yeah, that aint a good sign....
Big question here is why shaking it made it work. Could indicate a bad connection somewhere.
Just to refresh - you bought another d8b, was it both desk and cpu?
Did the previous owner mention any problems?

yes, it was both the d8b and CPU
the owner said everything worked he also said it had the latest version in it. but it did not it had version 2.0 in it he also said it had the apogee clock card but it didn't. so him saying it was in good shape may mean nothing to. I'm getting ready to see if my other CPU will work. if it doesn't work then that may mean it's in the board. I know this CPU I'm going to try is working it just has 3.0 without version 5.1 because its the older CPU but it works with my other d8b

thanks Joe

ok, I just changed the CPU with version 3.0. this is strange when I press the mic button it shows about five green bars on channel one but there is still no sound. I can just keep pressing the mic button on channel one and it keeps showing about five bars of green light and on the master output but can not get any sound from the mic. I also tried 3 mics and two different mic cables. I have no clue what it could be.

thanks, Joe Allen

Sounds like clocking issues to me, have you tried cleaning the card?

Thanks Phil what if I just put the Jackie clock card back in just to see if that one works. Then if it works I can clean the apogee card

I just changed the clock card. Just found out something that may help y’all to help me. I can take each mic channel and move the gain control almost all the way up and still get nothing when I press the mic button. But I soon as I turn the gain wide open it showed about five bars but still no sound from the mic channel. And it will do this on every channel only if I turn the gain all the way up but still can’t get sound on the mic. Thanks joe

I remember on any d8b you could plug a mic up on bank one on any channel 1-12 to see if the mic worked. But at this time I can not do that. Something has to be causing this problem. Got three d8b and all three are down

Worth a try with the original clock card at least you can eliminate that!
