The battery shouldn't have any effect on whether the display on the console works.
The function of the battery is to keep power to the bios chip, and thus keeping the settings when you turn off the power.
If the battery is dying, the bios settings will be reset.

The most important settings in the bios, are the settings for the serial com ports, and the midi card.
That's why there might be communication problems, if the bios settings isn't set up right.
Since these are old machines, that's why we tend to recommend that people change to a fresh battery.

There is a TON of valuable resources and smart folks here on the forum. I have been using the d8b since 2003 with only 1 major issue. I use the d8b with MOTU gear and DAW software, DP/Logic/PT - for example, I just completed a music video in Jan and now working on a film score using the d8b and MOTU hardware.

The d8b does require some babysitting, but if your patient and do all the proactive maintenance work, it can be very valuable for your creative projects. I suggest you take the time to read all the database notes/best practices/white papers etc here: http://www.sonido-7.com/d8b/index.html

Actually I'm not sure not I replaced the old 25 pin connector with a new one, and now the original problems persist. I will try the check the bios.

Replaced 25 pin connector, CMOS battery, and set bios to the bios in the link for the older
motherboard. I started the psi/cpu it said insert a floppy? So I probably need to get back and set it to ide-0 instead of floppy. Trying to get to the bios again I repeatedly pushed the f1 key. It then started instead of going to the bios but the same issues happened as before.

You have checked to make sure you have the older mother board installed, I have a picture on the Database of the new one.

To get to BIOS up, I always keep tapping Delete as it boots.

Have you tried re-seating all the cards in the CPU including the memory ones...worth a try?

I have reset the bios for the older motherboard to the specs. It is the older one I checked prior to setting. It's very odd because I got it to get communication with the old 25 pin by jiggling the cord. I will try reseating stuff to verify. I really hope I can figure it out. I hv a probox on the way.

Does jiggling the 25 pin lead always correct things? I think you might have a clue there if it does

Phil is correct, the 25 pin cable can be problematic, make sure you also reseat the cables and or check cable corrosion due to metal oxidation
