MFX card issue

Postby CaptainKirk » Tue Mar 05, 2019 4:47 pm

I wanted to get my two MFX cards put into use but discovered that no plugins show up. The D8b recognizes the cards are installed but seems to think they contain nothing. I tried searching for ways to reset or reinit the system and/or cards but no cigar.

I’m on version 5.1.

Thanks for any ideas

You need to install the plugins package.
They're available here:

You need a pc with a working floppy drive. And a working floppy of course :D

I had already looked there but the link provided is invalid. Is there anywhere else where the installs exist?

Hey Captainkirk and welcome to this forum.

The link you are looking for is, as Phil called it, "Service Pack 3". It is found within the link that arjepsen sent. It works.

Once you download and unzip them, you will need to copy them to 3 x 2 1/2" floppies. If you can't make floppies , like some of us, there is a "Floppy Emulator" (a USB hardware device, about $20.00 CDN), and software (free) that does the trick. Search this forum and the Database at the top for that.

Once installed, you will need the access code to allow you to "unlock" the MFX card which allows you to use the effects on the card. Do you have that access code, and know how to unlock the card?

If not, there is a work around we have called "The Hack", or "The Crack", which can also be found in the forum with instructions on how to use it along with the access codes for the MFX and UFX cards.

Another suggestion, when installing the MFX cards plug them into slots, 1 & 3, or 2 & 4. Not 1 & 2 nor 3 & 4. They work better (less problems) if an empty slot is between them. If you purchase UFX cards you can just pop them into the empty slots.

If I have made any errors in what I have written, the other Forum members will jump in and correct.

Hope this helps and gain welcome.

Cheers

agree with Bruce and Phil, CaptainKirk ,,,,and make sure you occasionally pop the cards 'in and out' of the slots, they can be problematic at times.

Ah - there's the confusion - I saw that under OS downloads - was expecting something more specific addressing the FX cards...

Will this service pack negatively affect things since I have v5.1 installed?
Thanks all, for your comments...

Hey captinkirk;

There should not be any negative effect. The software from SP3 gets you connected to the FX Cards, BUT, you need the access codes (Key code) to allow the cards to unlock the effects, or Liceneced, as the d8b calls it. Do you have those key codes?

As I recall they are tied to the ESN (Electronic Serial Number), of the d8b.

If you are using the Hack, the ESN is "0000-01E6-5288"

Do you have an original 5.1 OS, or the Hack version?

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers

If I remember correctly, only the UFX plugins need access codes to unlock them, the MFX don't.

I think there are two packages running on the MFX. One of them requires activation, but is activated automatically, if you have two MFX cards installed.
