Sixty Four meg is all that you had? I can't remember what these shipped with but that seems low to me.

I pretty well remember 32MB in the small slots, but after looking it up they shipped with as little as 16MB.

When the console just sits there the message will randomly come up. I dont even touch anything. but now it seems to have disappeared since i upgraded from 64mb of RAM to 320mb

I have never heard of a console doing that. I only see it during the boot up process. I believe 256 meg of RAM is all the console will recognize as Peter pointed out but it won't hurt it to have more. Sixty Four meg is all that you had? The one I just bought did it too, and also had 64Mb. Upgrading to 256Mb resolved it for the most part. I'm on the old Amptron 9800. I'm a PC geek too, and that was my first thought....how far can I upgrade it? But really all you need to do is put in the maximum recomended memory (256Mb) and everything should run fine. I would not recomend swapping the processors after looking at some of the research I've done on it. You could open up a whole other can of worms and it won't make the OS any more responsive than it already is. (It really won't) The only Mod I would recomend is replacing the stock CPU fan assembly with a quieter aftermarket replacment. I used an Ultra Socket 7 Copper unit that is almost silent and keeps CPU temps well within specs.

And seriously....I'm a geek modder too, and I'm telling you don't bother with the cpu. The risk/reward ratio is not worth it.
Mackie says the Software is designed to run at 100% efficiency using only 50% of the CPU (even our 166Mhz). As long as you have 256Mb yer not going to squeeze much more out of it. While I have seen claims that you could go as high as a 1.1Ghz Celeron in those newer boards, I've also seen reports that doing so can render your OS inoperative or unstable.

i dont know. it seems to be running fine now. although I have built myself computers before I think this 1998 technology is best to be left alone. now the problem....i have a random intel celeron now.. oh well it was only 9 bucks lol
