If you pair the d8b with an HDR, then you will be cooking with gas. The HDR's are not overly expensive these days and it takes the same I/O cards that the d8b uses. You can use other device as well but you will need something to record your multitracks too. The d8b routes inputs to the mutitrack or DAW of your choice via direct outs or bussing, the recorded tracks then come out of the MT or DAW and hit the tape return side of the d8b to mix out the stereo bus. There is a stereo card on the d8b where you would have your CD recorder or like mastering deck to make a final mix. There are some diagrams that might be helpful in the database or the back of the manuals that might drive it home for you as well.
