I've read that some PC ethernet cards don't play nice with the D8B as well... Could be something else to look in to. Good Luck!

Bondomatic...mine is deffo a crossover cable, but will try another one incase, cheers

I never had any d8b issues when I had two HDR's locked together. I never had an ethernet cable attached to the d8b though, if that is what you are asking.

Hi crash, i have not got the ethernet connected to the d8b , Just the two HDRs.
how did you have it set up?

I have Some questions if any one can help?

As i had it with the D8B freezing.......
I had the d8b as clock master
with clock out of the D8B ( clock set to internal) to the in of HDR1, ( clock set to "wordclock" button in on the HDR) then the clock out of HDR1 to the in of hdr2 ( clock set to "wordclock")

stereo Jack from hdr1 to hdr2 for SMPT, and Ethernet from hdr1 to hdr2 with Hdr 1 set to generate smpte

If i wanted to use HDR1 As clock master would i have to go to the in on the D8B then Out of the D8b clock the the In of HDR2 ?
or..
can i use a BNC T piece out of HDR1 to split to the ins of D8B and HDR2 ?
if i do this would i have to change the SMPTE out setting of the HDR1 from -10DBV to the higher one ??

Im now running it with the HDR set as master and no freezing,

rather than write all the settings here i will write them on a piece of paper take a photo and put a pic here later,
it will make more sence.

Hey Funk;

Check the HDR Manual. There is a section on how to set-up and synchronize 2 HDR's. This includes menu setting and cable connections etc.
Also I think, somewhere in the d8b manual there is a section on connecting 2 HDR's to a d8b.

I remember seeing a drawing about this but am not sure where. I'll look and get back to you.

Cheers and good luck.

hi bruce, thanks for that, there is indeed a great section on connecting two hdrs together, but funny enough not to a d8b !
i have done it from the manual and the d8b is freezing
I did read somewhere about using a BNC T peice, something about its not so good as the clock card in the d8b is not powerfull enough to power two other clocks ? hence the question about the -10DBV output setting.
sorry if all this is abit obvious, but just wondered how others have set this up.

The way I did the dual HDR thing with a d8b was connecting the hdr's together via the manual pre flight checklist. I think I was using a Lucid external clock as my master for the entire rig at the time, if I remember correctly.... I am using an Apogee these days. I had one machine return normally via the DIO.8 cards and the other I used a breakout cable db25->1/4" into the mic/line side of the d8b 1/4" inputs.

I would think a clocking issue would result in pops and clicks but not a freezing issue of the console. But who knows?

it was popping during recording as well at times, like static spikes.
I have a motu clock i could try that,
al have another bash tonight.

Regarding the "T BNC" piece on a clock out of the d8b or hdr has anyone done this ?

Hey Funk;

It should work as long as you put the termination in the cct. It shouldn't matter where it goes but I (when I was doing Video) always put it at the last machine in the chain. Easier to find.

Others way have "real world" d8b experience that may render my advice null & void.

Cheers

Two pages from the database you should read:

Wordclock Setup

Apogee Wordclock Termination
