LED Spectrum Analysis added to my console's CPU

I think many of you are looking too deeply into this project's purpose... I think it looks cool, and outside of that, I'm not claiming any utility. = )

Regarding the CPU's noise, I suppose I should have mentioned earlier, my CPU has been modified to operate without a fan, and since I use the desk exclusively as a MIDI control surface, the hard disk is disconnected. Everything still works; if I ever decided to run audio through the console again, and now that I'm considering the ProBox, I may indeed have to reinstall the fan and reconnect the harddrive, in which case, it'll have to go back into the bottom of the rack. For now though, I just enjoy looking at it. Nothing more, nothing less. I 've appreciated everybody's comments!

I guess you had to have new decals made for the new paintjob.

I made the decals myself in Photoshop and printed them onto a clear sheet of decal paper. Once applied I sealed them on the CPU with a coat of matte varnish. It ended up being infinitely simpler than I anticipated.

I've done similar in PS, it might have been easier to take a picture of the decals and delete the background and then print, unless that's what you did.

That was actually my original plan, but I ended up locating a D8B logo online somewhere, although it still needed some thorough cleanup. Ideally, vector-ized art is what you'd want, but my photoshop version ended up being sufficient in the end. If you're interested, I'll gladly send you the layered PSD file.

Thanks for the offer but my cpu's will remain grey, they blend in with my other racked outboards, no time anyway

I recently bought a 1961 Watkins Rapier 33 for nostalgic reasons really as it was my very first electric guitar back in 1963, the scratch plate decal had worn off, there's a slight recess where it fits, so I traced around that and produced the design. It had to be printed onto decal paper by a decal company as the letters are gold. The problem then was that because the area where it fits has the letters recessed the decal would not normally follow the contours so Micro Sol was brushed over it, this makes it soft and gets it sitting properly.

I'm most impressed with the way you reproduced the lettering. Did you make up a silk screen or are those die cut?
Oh, I think I found the post where you describe this. Anyone can paint the CPU, but what you did really set it apart.
