Purge Files

I always wondered, when purging files, ie. if I record something a few times one over the other and then purge, the previous takes are deleted from the HD, but if I cut a section from a region, after purging, it's not, so cleaning up a project this way to save disk space doesn't work?

Hey Phil;

I haven't found the need to purge files as of yet (not that busy), but it is good to know.

I'll add this to my "Tips" files.

Merry Christmas
Bruce

Hi All,
The "purge files" in my experience, only brings up the "unused regions" to be selected for purging. In other words, any region you have deleted will appear on this list. All takes, both original and virtual that have not been deleted and appear on the screen will not be purged.

Have a blessed day,
Mike W.

That's right Mike, if for example, vocals are recorded as one take throughout a song, but the vocals are only for say a few seconds at the beginning and end, then it's always been good practice to delete the empty space on the region to free up HD space, by doing this on the HDR and purging doesn't remove it as it can be dragged back from the ends of the remaining regions, so much better to punch in and out.
