HDR External Drive not reading??

Postby Riverside Studio » Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:29 pm

Greetings from Indiana USA all.
Has anyone run in to the issue of the External Drive on the HDR 24 not being read or seen?
Could use some advice. Thanks Brent

Hi,
You could try opening up the caddy (pull out the tabs on the sides of the top and the top slides right off) and check that the hard drive is properly connected. I once had one where one of the power connectors leads became loose. Also maybe you could use one of those canned air electronics dusters to blow out the connection seats in the back of the caddy cavity on the HDR.

Have a blessed day,

Almost forgot, does the key to the caddy slot feel loose? That lock used to cause me problems until I decided to alter the plastic on the outside of the caddies, (making it possible to just leave the lock in the on position and still insert and withdraw the caddies)

What kind of Hard Drives are you having trouble with?

Mechanical?
Solid State Drive?
Compact Flash?

I have had trouble with some SSD, but it is usually the IDE To SATA II adaptor that is the culprit. I don't recall what I did but it might have been "Mounting Drive" that makes things work.
My system is down at the moment otherwise I would check.

If it is Mechanical Drives check as Mike said or have a look at the Centronix connector in the bay it's self. It is a mechanical connection that will fail.

Hello, Yes the key slot is loose. (How can I tighten?) I used the compressed air on it to no avail but it keeps it clean. The caddy's are originals issued with the hdr, have tried 3 different ones, but nothing. if that answers your questions.
Thanks guys....

Hey Brent;

Assuming all your drives are mechanical, it rules out what I suggested and point more in the direction that Mike is having you go.

Good luck, post back.

Cheers

Hi, The problem I had was that when that key mechanism became loose, sometimes it would tell the computer that there was no drive in the bay and sometimes this would happen during recording or back-up. Not Good, so I ended up replacing the bay with a new one and altering the cases on all my drives so that they could be slid in and out without me continually locking and unlocking that stupid key. Best I remember it was a beast to get at and get the new one in, but it can be done.

Have a blessed day,

Hi,
I thought I'd save you some legwork in case you do need to replace the bay. This one should work https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lian-Li-RH-40- ... SwTOZccviB
