Hi everyone
this may sound crazy here goes
I know what a send and return and an insert is
on a mixing console and I know what they do.
but I have never seen one on a effects unit on the inside.
my ksp8 has one in the front panel. it says send/return or insert
never new this until know. so I was wondering if I run my effects 100%
wet using the send and return on the d8b. what should the send/return
or insert on the ksp8 be set to. I think it should be on send /return
but not sure. just say I did set it on insert and I ran cables to send and return
on the d8b what would be the difference.
thanks joe allen

Hey Joe, are you talking about the Kurweil KSP8? If you are, I assume you are talking about a menu based insert/return and not a physical jack since there is not one on the front of that unit. The way I interface my physical in the rack whiz bang boxes is to use the d8b's physical 1/4 inch aux jhacks to get the signal out of the d8b to to the box and then return via the cahnnels on the mic/line side of the console. You could come back in via an AIO.8 card through the ALT I/O slot as well. I think your best bet will be to crack open the manual on the KSP8 to wrap your head around what you are seeing there.

yes I am talking about the kursweil ksp8
yes I am talking about the menu base insert/return
crash that's the same way I run mine. but I still don't
understand the insert or send return in the menu
I do know in the manual if you set it on insert you
don't get 100% wet you get what whatever amount of
wet dry mix was made for the program your in.
I know that when I use the send and return on the d8b side
I can us the channel to bring up how much effect I want
so that's why I was asking about the menu send/return/ insert
thanks joe allen

I am envious of you having that box. It seems like quite the powerhouse unit but since I don't own one to put my hands on it, I am of little help with this insert, send/return function. I am sure this unit is quite flexable in terms of internal routing and it's various F/X chains so my best advice, play with it and see what it all does. That is half the fun of a box like this. If you decide you don't like it, you can always send it to me.

I tried to find a ksp8 forum but seen nothing
if they have a forum I was thinking maybe someone there
could tell me about the send/return/ insert in the menu. am I correct
to say if I use send and return on the d8b I am getting 100% wet
on the return and I can ajust the return to the amount I want to hear.
just can't understand the send/return/ insert in the menu on the ksp8
maybe someone who has one will chime in.
thank Joe allen

Hi Crash
I just read the KSP8 manual and here is the only thing it
says about the send/return and insert in the menu.
mix mode this parameter affects reverb and other effects with wet/dry parameters.
the setting can be insert or send/ return.
insert uses the default wet/dry values set for the preset.
the quickest way to see these setting is usually to look at the wet/dry
parameter on the quick page for the preset.
send/return set the wet/dry value wherever applicable to 100% wet
this is the only thing that's in the manual about the send/return and the insert
in the menu.
hope someone can read this as it is in the manual and tell me
what do you think this means.
thanks for any help with this because I am confused

Hmmm, the way I read that is that it is asking if you are using it in an insert or send/return scenario and setting the wet/dry values depending on what you select. I would think insert would be some dry and wet where send/return would be 100% wet...as you wrote up there. In insert you would have to control the wet/dry ratio within the unit where the other way you are controloing those ratios at the console with how much return you are bringing back. I am sure you can get into that unit and change all sorts of parameters with the wet/dry ratios being one of them.

Crash you are right about the insert its wet and dry.
other words when you select a large hall or a small room
if its set to insert you get just say it could be 60% wet/dry
or another preset could be 30% wet dry. I have always thought if you
use any effect on the send and return on a mixing board it was a 100% wet
no matter what its set on in the menu. on a return channel you can ajust
the amount of return to what you want it to be. am I thinking the right way on this
or am I wrong.

Yep Joe, I think you have it figured. All of my f/x boxes are set 100% wet. I control the amount, or ratio, of the f/x with the return faders of the f/x. The source fader is the dry, the return f/x faders are the wet, the ratio is the balance between.
