Just got my D8B - have some questions

hey there!

I was looking for the perfect DAW controller and found the D8B. I heard that you could install that "D8Bridge" thingy to make it work like a DAW controller. So I bought myself a D8B. I don't gonna use it for recording. Just as a daw controller.

I have it on my desk now. Here's my question

- Do I have to plug in a cable (seriell) between the D8B and the CPU unit, even if I just wanna use it as a daw controller
- Do I have to plug in the mouse and keyboard into the CPU?
- Do I have to plug in a screen into the CPU?
- Can I just plug in a seriell cable from the output of my D8B intro my PC (using Studio One) and be good to go?
- Or do I need to plug in some MIDI cables to my interface to use it as a daw controller?

Why I'm asking is cuz i haven't bought the D8Bridge yet.

basicly, what do I have to do to use my D8B as a daw controller in Studio One v2.5, until I've bought the D8Bridge?

Yes.

No but see answer about screen.

No but it's kinda hard to navigate around without it.

No.

Yes, if you want to use the d8b sans d8bridge.

You'd have to do a considerable amount of midi mapping.

ok, so if i've got this right. I need to go buy 2 seriell cables. One from the CPU to the Mackie, and one from the mackie to my computer?

OR.. just one, between my CPU and the Mackie, and a MIDI cable to my soundcard?

Rusty, the serial cable from the desk to the CPU/Power supply is data communication. There is no provision for a second cable. You would communicate with your sound card via opt 8 or SPDIF or AES (if your sound card allows). If you don't have the manual, you can find a link in the database.

For the d8b to act solely as a DAW controller using D8Bridge, you only need the power source from the CPU unit.

A special cable (serial) is provided with the software and it is connected directly to your DAW computer.
