Audio In, No Audio Out!

Getting signal into the board, meter bridge is lighting up per channel but no sound through the main outs...other than this hum. Started all of a sudden. Tap the board and you get this static like somethings lose or a bad connection. Took it out and took the back off and cleaned the ribbon connections and still the same problem! Even reseated the cards!! Am I a victim of the dreaded "rail cap" scenario!! If so, is it a expensive fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This doesn't sound like the dreaded rail cap failure... Are you getting Master Left/Right meters? Are you talking just speaker volume, or output to your 2-track deck? What are your headphone outs doing?

No sound comes from the master out L&R except when you tap or bump the mixer, then you get this loud static as though something's not plugged in all the way which prompted me to check that first. Then you hear this hum.
Keyboards, mic, drum machines all show up on their channels but nothing is coming from the master outs. I never use the heaphone outs, but when I checked, nothing, not even that loud static when the mixer is bumped. Totally out of the blue...

Do the master L/R meters reflect/follow what you are hearing?

If you mean the static, then yes. That's the only time the L&R meters move...when it's bumped.

So there's your answer, it's a connection inside, I had a similar problem when I pressed on the panel in front of the faders, turns out it was the clock card not screwed in and the d8b body flexing caused the contact problem.

Hey Phil,
You were right! After digging a little deeper, I found the problem: a few loose ribbon cables and two cards that were loose as well.
Thanks again.
