Motu 2408/d8b Routing

Postby Freqabeat » Wed Apr 04, 2012 7:27 pm

Hey all, just have a simple question, can anyone tell me how i can send my ADAT outs from my 2408 into the d8b so that I can have an analog mix on bank 25-48?

It's as easy as taking the ADAT outs of your 2408 to the ADAT ins of the d8b. Providing you have ADAT cards installed in the d8b. You didn't state this info so I can't give you a definitive answer as far as your situation goes but, normally that is how it's done.

I’m sorry, I have 2 DIO-8 and an OPT-8 card installed, and I am going ADAT optical from my 2408 to the d8b cards.

I use the line outs of my 2408 to D8b line ins, but I only use eight tracks.

Ok that sounds like the right way, as long as you have the OUTPUTS of the 2408 connected to the INPUTS of the d8b ADAT cards.

Are you saying you are not receiving any input?

Make sure your routing inside your DAW is set up properly and also make sure the 2408 is setup properly in it's control panel(can't remember the exact name it's been a while).

Also, do you have a word clock card installed in the d8b? Make sure this is connected to the motu as well.

I only have the mackie word clock, not the upgraded apogee word clock. I've only been a d8b user for about 3 weeks now so I'm still getting the hang of things.

but i have all my tracks in Pro Tools being routed to the opt outs on the 2408, then to the opt ins on the d8b, but no avail. :(

Hmm well a good test to see if 25-48 is getting signal is to take the output of the adat card and feed it into the input of the same card, plug a mic in. Route the channel that the mic is in to the output and see if it turns up on the 25-48 bank. If it does then it's something with the motu set up.

Are you clocking via adat in the motu control panel?

Is your sample rate for the Pro Tools project the same as the console? Remember that the d8b can only handle 44.1/48K on the digital inputs and nothing higher.

Are you sure that your light pipe cables are good?

I am clocking via the Motu PCI-E card. The session and the board is set to 48k. cables are good and everything else checks out fine.

UPDATE

Ok, so I checked my connections and I do actually have sound coming in, however, the sound keeps cutting out and is very faint and distorted when it is in. Now, I’ve seen and heard about something with eproms, or something like that. What is this talk about?

With your setup the Mackie, not the Motu, must be the master clock. Make that change and hopefully it will fix your problem with the distorted and cutting out sound.
