Using D8B with Protools 9

On short cable runs (<1m) you might be OK with standard RCA cables. For something like 5-6m or more you'll surely have to use 75 ohm or regular RCA video cables (usually yellow plugs on both ends and a bit stiffer than audio cable). I had problems with 'regular' RCA audio cables on SPDIF over 4' (1.2m), but some good quality audio cables could handle even 3m without problems, it really does depend too much on the construction of the cable and other factors to say anything even remotely reliable here. Officially it always should be 75ohms coaxial/unbalanced (even if only 1' long), that's what the standard says.

I should have known better than assuming a short run. You're absolutely correct in that it should be 75ohms for anything longer than that. I have quite a few homemade 75ohm SPDIF cables that were made for an 8m run using Mogami B650 5904. Fairly thin, quite flexible and isn't a PITA soldering and finishing it to Switchcraft RCAs.

I usually buy bulk RCA video cables. They are cheap and convenient 75 ohms solution, and work well up to 10m (maybe more, I've never tried). Surely not as high quality as your Mogami/Switchcraft combo...

Hi everybody, yes I am using my D8B with Pro Tools 9, and have 4 Adat I/O cards goes straight in to RME HDSPe RAYDAT,on my MAC.I can even use transport control from my D8B,and other way round.So I do not stress P.T.9 with inserts,because all the plug ins I need, I am using from D8B. And it is working like a Swiss Watch...

Hi all, new d8b user and I have a question. I currently use 3 Motu 2408's (1 mk3 and 2 mk1's) with my d8b over adat. But I am thinking about upgrading 2 Motu HD192's. Here's my question; does the d8b sample rate make a difference when going out of the AIO-8 cards?

Been a while since Ive been on here however, thought I would pass along my thanks for the previous adivse. I also have another question now that I have sorted out most of my D8B/ Protools questions.. BTW the D8B will also work with Sonar X1 for anyone who uses that sofware. Anyways, I recently puchased an upgraded MDR/ HDR and have hooked it up with the D8B however, Im having some issues getting signal through to some tracks on the MDR/HDR. I am using 1 Opt-8 card in 17-24 slots and and DI0-8 in 1-8 and 9-16 slots. I can see signal passing through from the Opt-8 on 17-24 using optical cables however, nothing from 1-8 or 9-16 using the DIO-8 cards. I have checked the light source in all of the slots aswell swapped cables to ensure that it is not a cable problem. I have changed the firmware chips to V2 on all of the cards so I know they match. What am i missing?

Click the set-up button and go to Digital I/O to make sure that adat is selected for those cards and not TDIF?

Well If you've swapped the cards around and the DIO-8's aren't working in any of the slots and the OPT-8 works in all 3 then to me it sounds like a problem with the DIO-8's and not the recorder. Are you sure you installed the V2 chips correctly when you upgraded?
