how does one go about the config of this?

ive connected a lead to the back of the mackie cpu which has a midi in and midi out, ive hooked these up to my soundcard, had a look in cubase 5 in device set up and config'd the mackie hui and set the relevant inputs. Is this the right way or is it something else. much appreciated and sorry to bother :)

This should do the trick. The D8B sends MMC commands (Play, Stop, FF, REW) to Cubase, sees them and responds by sending MMC back to the D8B.

There's hardly anything required to set up in the D8B itself. Open the MIDI Setup menu and set the three MIDI Device ID dropdowns to: Device ID 0

Note that I have "MIDI Clock Follows Project Position" unchecked. I work with looped sections a lot, and many times I don't want the D8B to keep looping the timecode. Check this choice and the D8B will loop the timecode between the L&R markers.

thanks a mil Frank, I tried this but still not getting it running for some reason, when i bought the d8b i was given 2 sets of leads that seem to connect to the same place on the cpu, the first one ive tried so far basically plugs into the cpu and has 2 midi connectors on it. the other lead i havent tried yet has midi + a few others hanging out of it. Il give this lead a go.

Perhaps if you posted a photo or two of what you have, it'll save a round of "20 questions". This is what mine (dust and all) looks like:

I have to say that mine MIDI breakout cable do not look like the one in the picture.

Sweck, the cable that has MIDI and a few others cables hanging out is not for the d8b, AFAIK.

Let me guess....no dust on yours? :-)

Seriously....the unit in the pic was the standard issue MIDI breakout connector we shipped with D8Bs and HDR24s for at least the first two years or so. What does yours look like?

I wish I had one or two of those. So much neater than the floppy cable.

Now I'm not sure, but i guess I have a black breakout cable, like the floppy one Peter is saying.

That one looks really neat BTW.

If memory serves me correctly, the model I have was replaced by the "floppy" version for two reasons: it was pricey and the manufacturer could not supply the quantities the shipping schedule required. So someone was tasked to look for a second source and found the "floppy" version.

And it goes without saying, when it came down to the D8B's BOM, cheaper always won.
