need help to choose interface

i use the lightbridge. it is amazing...if you get a non defective model

Depends what you want to do. I use an RME Raydat http://www.rme-audio.de/products_hdspe_raydat.php for a few reasons:

1. I have other Audio interfaces and the Lightbridge cannot act as an Aggregate Device (Im on a Mac)
2. It still has 32 ADAT channels but also has MIDI I/O and SPDIF
3. Its PCIE so more efficient than Firewire

I have 24 channels of ADAT audio to/from my D8B, plus an extra 8 spare (which if you had an ADAT card in your ALT I/O slot would be useful.

I used to have a Motu 2408, but sold it, and started using my RMS HDSP 9654 instead. The MOTU card was clock unstabile, and sounded different (worse) than the RME card. The advantage of the MOTU card is the interface itself, where you can use it without the D8B. The problem is that it needs its own power, and it the sound differance is very much an issue. The RM card sound so much brighter/fresher, and also 100 times more stabile. I would never go back. There must be a good reason Black Lion Audio is modifying these Motus for their living...

That was my thoughts about it.

I was kind of kidding but then again, not. The d8b performs markedly better with the Apogee clock card than the stock clock card. Also, if you are considering an external interface, you will want to be clocking everything from the one clock and the Apogee is the only way to achieve that since it has BNC in and out.

The advice regarding the RME interface is sage. MOTU are a lottery IMHO. I've had good ones and I've had bad ones. The Mk 3 2408 is ok but don't get anything prior to that. They're problematic and tech support is notoriously thin on the ground.

I just want to add that the biggest point in favor to RME is that you get access to the unique DIGICheck metering and analysis toolbox:



BTW, I have been using the RME's Digiface for about 10 years with my d8b and no problems at all.

Probably the most solid drivers out there!
