d8b OS3 Service Pack 3 and Patch

Hi all.
First, I want to thank everyone who helped me work through my first boot-up attempt with my d8b. For the good of the group, you can follow the thread titled "d8b Data Cable." Past of the problem was "OE" (operator error), but the board is up and running and now begins the arduous task of building cables.

When I downloaded OS3 from the forum, I also grabbed service pack 3 and the OS3 patch. When should I install these and is it absolutely necessary that I do? I can't find anything about either of these programs on the forum, and now that the board is working, I don't want to mess anything up by installed a service pack that might gum up the works.
