Time to go

Hi All;

Just a note to say thanks to everyone here at this wonderful Forum. I have been here since 2011 and it's been a lot of learning, sharing, frustration but fun. In particular "The Crack, or The Hack"! A ground breaking day for sure.

I have been unable to get my d8b to work and no one to fix them who understand our passion for these beasts.

So I am parting them out. There is a post in the For Sale section

I want to say a special thanks to Crash, Any Horizon, Phil.C, Funk, Mike, Mike Rivers, Y-my-R, Joe Allen, Eric Russ (rest in Peace, my friend), and Bob T. The man behind this incredible piece on engineering.

So many others who have helped me and others along the way. Giving of their time and their knowledge in the name of Audio.

I'll drop by from Time-to-Time.

Cheers to all of you.
Bruce

Sad to see you go, Bruce!

...I did see some of your recent posts, where you just didn't have any luck with getting your desks back in working order... and I'm not much help with these kinds of electrical/component defects, so I didn't have anything to chime in with, sorry. But I understand your decision. If I was in your situation, I'd also invest a reasonable amount of time/money to get my desk(s) to work again, but if "reasonable" doesn't do it, then I'd also move on. I totally get it.

Curious to hear what you'll replace your main D8B with! Once you got that figured out and set up, please report back how your new setup works out for you! The D8Bs aren't getting any newer, and one day we'll all have to move on to something else, I guess... would be nice to have an 'experience report' from someone who comes from the same corner (i.e. D8B), so we all know what we'll be in for :)

Best of luck! We'll miss you, Bruce!

Thanks for the shout out Bruce. I feel ya... I too boxed up my d8b a few months back. It was still rock solid and working as good as ever but I rebuilt a dxb and the routing and other features, such as higher sample rates and VST capability made me make the jump. Like you, I still cruise by here and see what is going on from time time but I have retired my d8b for the moment. Best of luck in your future endeavors and we'll see ya down the road.

Hi everyone;

After deciding on another desk, Presonus StudioLive Series III SX ($6,000.00 cdn), and ready to order it, I decided to have a look on a auction site called Kijiji and there was a working d8b desk and CPU for $600.00 cdn not too far from me. I contacted the seller, verified it was working and bought it. Had some cosmetic damage, and needed a few things replaced, (8-way fader board), but it works. It was also a 2001 build so hopefully no capacitor issues. The CPU is the newer board so that also helps with a USB Mouse, and a CF Hard drive (I hope).

I know it may sound crazy to have bought it, but at my age (67), if I get a few years out of it I'm good. I can always sell it to one for fellows before I go into the retirement home ;)

All this is to say I really wanted a d8b and although the Presonus would have worked there would have been other stuff to purchase to make it all work.

Sorry for pulling the trigger as little early, and thanks for the comments.

Hope everyone is well in thos COVID19 world we live in.

Cheers from Canada
Bruce

Hi Bruce So happy your staying with us. We are the same age. I can tell my age every year gets me more pain in different places. Just happy to be a live. Hope this d8b serves you well.
