New d8b user - nice forum

A few months ago I inherited a d8b with power supply. Today I finally set it up and started figuring things out. Finding this forum was a real blessing - I was able to search around and get answers to basic questions, and I got the mixer up and running and passing signal. I originally was going to get the mixer going and sell it, but I'm already liking it so I may keep it. I do have some small questions though:

1) What is the proper way to power down the mixer? (switch off at the power supply/CPU?)

The other questions are little things about the forum. When registering, the forum security questions asked me about OS version numbers, but being new to this mixer, I don't know what OS version I have or what the latest version is. Would someone tell me what the latest version is and where to find the version I'm running?

Also, another security question was about the original clock card having a BNC connector. I assume that it does, but I'm not sure if the card I have is original - it's an Apogee... is that the original word clock card?

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your d8b when you get into it, you will love it.
The proper way to shut down is File > Shutdown > Save changes, you can just switch the power off but that won't save anything you've done.

The latest OS is V 5.1, when you boot up you should see this on your screen but you might have V3 which is not so good but can be changed.

The Apogee clock card has connectors, if yours doesn't then you have the standard stock card which will give you sound but you will need to get an Apogee.

I do have an Apogee card with 2 BNC connectors. What I meant was, I don't know what card was used as the original word clock card for the d8b or if it came with a BNC connector (This is a security question for this forum).

welcome ! I have been using my d8b since 2003 and it still works. I suggest you consider upgrading to a Compact Flash Kit if you are still using HDs at "some point" some info can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2193

you will find all the help you need here in this forum, these guys are really good helping you solve things.
