hi to all. someone may remember about two years ago I was having trouble with my d8b and Ralph the one that got the v5.1 going for everyone that wanted it. he told me it was my brain board that was causing me problems so I sent it off to him. and he worked on it for a while. he told me there was something wrong with it but could not find the source and he was right. so I finally saved up some money and was able to get the brain board from Gary stone about a month or to ago. I put the board in and it showed some kind of life error 43 came up. before I change the brain board i could not get anything to show no kind of light at all. since its showing error 43, I was thinking I need to reload v5.1 and service pack three plugins. the problem is all the disk I had are not working at all they are really old. so does anyone know where I could get all the disk images made for the v5.1 and the images made for the service pack 3?. I would be happy to pay anyone who could make me these images on a new disk. for both the v5.1 and service pack 3. without getting any help I will never know if the brain board was my main problem. one more thing would it boot up without any cards in the card slot or without the monitor hooked up just the big friggin cable. thanks for any help with this. Hi Garrett
Go to my post a couple below yours "where to get 5.1" and to the reply from Anders (arjepsen).....I followed his script and download and it worked like a charm. Good luck

Hi Larry
maybe I said it the wrong way. but I already had V5.1 loaded I got that version when it first came out. but when my brain board went bad my d8b was down for a good while. so I got another brain board card from Gary stone with the old brain card I could not get anything to show up when I booted it up no light or anything no sign of life at all. after I put the brain board card in I got from Gary it showed some life it showed error 43. so I was thinking I needed to reload V5.1 and service pack 3 images. and start fresh. the thing is my old disk is old and not working and I have no way of making new ones. so I was hoping I could get someone to make me a copy of the of V5.1 and service pack 3. I would be happy to pay anyone whatever they charge me. or ether tells me a better way to do this. thanks for any kind of help I sure need it. would love to bring this d8b back to life again. Hi folks
let me ask something different. is there a better way of getting things to load on the d8b besides the old disk. and if so what would that be and where could I get this from and can I get it already loaded so the only thing I would need to do is change it out. I have always used the old disk way and there hard to find. so I would like a better way even though it would be new to me. I just hope I can find something that's ready to just put it in and go. I think Mike wittily told me about something a good while back but I have forgotten what it was. just want to get the d8b back working again. thanks, Joe Allen

Since you're already in there swapping the brain board etc.....why don't you pull the hard drive out and attach it to your PC and install everything within the PC. No need for floppies. This is essentially what you want ( loading everything without regard to disks etc). Its also not difficult at all to replace the internal system hard drive with a Compact flash drive (only about 20 or 25 bucks worth of parts).....then anytime you want to make changes, or add things to the system you just plop the CF into your PC reader, load the files then snap it back into the d8b. I think most people would agree that this is an easier path. Hope this helps

thanks, Larry
I have never attached a hard drive to a PC and install everything within the PC. I would not know where to start but I am willing to try. the same goes for replacing the hard drive with a compact flash drive but be willing to try that too. but I would need some help on how to do this. I'm not a computer guy and no very little about computers. I am a slow learner but willing to try. because I love the old d8b.

Search in the database for this ....Replacing the HDD with a Compact Flash card....... by Todd Masten. It looks more complicated than it is, and you'll be glad you did it. Like he says you don't even have to take the hard drive out, just disconnect the cables and attach to the CF adapter you install in one of the empty slots in the d8b. I have done this with my d8b, HDR and MDR and never regretted it. Good to get rid of all the hard drives, noise, failures etc. and if the software fails (rarely) all you do is take the CF out of the d8b , put it in the reader on your PC and re-image it. You're back in business.....the CF conversion is a godsend for all this old gear and breathes new life into the.

where do I buy this Compact flash card at? can you get them with everything already loaded on them V5.1 and service pack 3?. I'm asking because I am dumb when it comes to things like this but if it will make things better for me then I'm all in. thanks for your time and help.

You need an IDE - CF adapter, like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Compac ... cf+adapterThen you need a CF card. Doesn't need to big - 1gb is more than enough.
The difficult part for you might be to open the CPU unit and install it instead of the old hard drive.
If you know someone with a bit of computer technichal skills, that might be helpfull.
Otherwise, I might be able to post some photos that could help.
After that, it's a matter of putting the images I made on the CF card.
Btw, when you get "error 43" it's usually an indication that there is no communication going on between the cpu unit and the desk. The reasons for this can be many - bad serial cable, bad umbilical cord, bad bios settings in the cpu unit, etc.
Anyways, take your time and we'll do our best to help you out.

Anders
