Application does not seem to load

New to the Forum...
I pastor a small church and someone generously donated a Mackie d8b mixer. The donor only owned the machine and had never actually set it up.

So far:
- Identified the machine as one with the newer motherboard
- replaced dead motherboard battery
- obtained correct cables and adapters to hook the power supply/cpu to the mixer
- connected mixer, cpu, and cpu peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse)
- reset the BIOS to factory specs

It will boot! Yay! No "Error 43" message. The flying faders move and the board says it is downloading effects and such...

At the end of the boot process I get the message, "loading application."

after which the screen goes blank. Everything is frozen in place with the exception of the mouse.

The board appears operational but no button works. The keyboard has the "num lock" light on but there is no response when any of the keys are pushed.

I am thinking that the program may be corrupted... but I really don't know at this point.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hey, and welcome!

I think I would try to reinstall the OS.
Do you have any working floppy disks you could use?

Regards

Thanks for your reply!!

It has been so long since I have worked with floppies! I did get a floppy usb reader and some disks. I downloaded the os files from the database and copied them to the disks. Not totally sure I did that correctly, and I am using a MacBook... I any case, I inserted the number one disk and nothing new happened. It booted just like it has been.

I am bringing a PC tower home tonight and thinking of pulling the HD from the d8b and hooking it up to the tower and look at it from there. Can I download the os files and copy them directly to the d8b HD that way?

I have also ordered an IDE to CF adapter, CF card, and power adapter. That should be here by Friday. I will likely go that route for a long term fix. I plan to use the instructions in the database for the install.

The CF route is definately so much easier.
I can make an image for you of a clean new installation that you can simply “restore” to your CF card.
It bypasses the whole floppy installation process for you.

Let me know.
Regards, and have a blessed day.

Ok.
Give a a couple of days. I've made another thread, asking people for their prefered initial setup.
Then I'll make an image, and post a thorough walkthrough in how to use it.

Update:
Just discovered that the floppy drive is no good... on a hunt for a "new" one.

I wouldn't bother.
When I got my d8b, I went on a hunt for the disks themselves.
I managed to buy a couple - but they all had faults.
Even if you get a drive, there's no guarantee that the disks will work.
If you have the CF card and adapter incoming, then you don't need the drive anyway.
