Hello, I'm new here. I bought my D8B new in 2000 and have never had a single problem. It started acting weird on startup and I had to press F1 to get it to boot. Stupid me I had no idea that the CPU had a battery so the original battery from 2000 was flat dead 0.00, so I replaced it. Now it won't start and I get Error 43. I've cleaned all connections and held down either F1 or Delete, but it won't start the BIOS. I've searched this Forum and Error 43 appears a lot, but at this point, nothing that helps me. Using an old XP computer I made a bootable DOS floppy, but I don't know how to get the D8B to boot from the DOS floppy. I don't know if the HD has failed. The only thing I know for sure is that the old battery was totally dead, I replaced it and now the D8B won't get past Error 43. I have v5.1 disks and my Keygen. Also, a while ago I bought an 8GB Compact Flash and the appropriate socket mounter. I'm stumped as to what to do.

Are you tapping the "Delete" button on bootup to get you to the CMOS screen, because it will need re-setting?

Thanks for responding Phil. Yes, I've held down both the Delete and F! keys and still Error 43. You say tap, but I've held down, is tap the way to do it? Thanks, Fred

I have always had luck just holding it down. Did you ever get into the BIOS so you could reset post battery change?

Thanks for responding. I've always gotten to the BIOS holding down the F1 key during startup. Since battery change, I can't get the D8B past "Error 43". However, I examined the motherboard with magnifying lenses and found 7 capacitors that are swollen. I'm going to replace those caps. Anyone else changed caps on the motherboard? Thanks, Fred

Ironically, I just did this on a Tascam X48. Actually my buddy did the work but I figured out that the caps were bad. Once that happened the unit sprang to life.

So even after you reset the BIOS to the correct settings as per the database for your processor, you are stuck?

As Yet I haven't replaced the caps and I can't get to the BIOS. I'm hoping that after the caps are replaced, that I'll be able to reset the BIOS and it will completely boot. Fingers crossed! Thanks!

So that I could replace some swollen caps and I removed my motherboard. I marked everything except a small 5 pin connector near the rear of the CPU right next to the keyboard socket (the one that looks like a MIDI port). The connector is black, 5/8" x 1/8". Does it go on the left or right of the keyboard socket (the one that looks like a MIDI port)? Looking with the HD close to me and the back of the unit away from me. Thanks, Fred
