OS 2.3 on a CF Card, unable to boot

Hello, I just installed OS 2.3 from a floppy and onto a CF drive I have installed in my d8b, and it is reporting successful at the end and to click continue to reboot. When I reboot I get the same screen that launches more or less when the installer starts running off the floppy, but the message says something to the effect of DONE. Return code 0001H.

When I power off and back on, I am just getting a Non-System disk or disk error message.

What I've done so far:

1. Pulled out the CF card and inserted it into my desktop PC and verified that files were created and exist on the CF card from the d8b
2. Checked my motherboard settings and confirmed the motherboard is recognizing the CF card
3. Tried installing 3.1 and 5.0 / 5.1, but none of these will install and it just 'hangs' with a single asterisk on screen in the right corner on disk 1

Really really hoping someone can point me to getting my d8b to recognize my CF card. I've read the steps on the sonido site for installing a CF card and configuring the system but either I'm missing something or it isn't working.

I think the "hanging with the asterisk" is usually where the installation asks for the next floppy.
Check whether there's a message about that on the console.

Hi there arjepsen, I did try that previously and just tried it again, but unfortunately inserting a new disk doesn't move past any point, and pressing any keyboard key (I've tried them all at this point) doesn't help. Very odd behaviour with my d8b.

I wonder why the 2.3 OS will install though? It does write to the CF card through the install, so the system recognizes the drive as the C: drive. Here is the log.txt that was written to the card today on the 2.3 install:

Well now a new issue, on the BIOS screen it only gets to the point where it displays the processor type, which is the first line, and then stops. I had a feeling I wouldn't be happy revisiting this board!

So, it's probably motherboard / processor / memory related. I have new memory in there. The processor and motherboard are original. New battery. New CPU fan, new HD and floppy connector cables. I've reseated connections and same result.

Anyone have a spare motherboard that is working that you might consider selling to a d8b user who has no hair left due to pulling it all out?

Hi Peter, the details are above - I am unable to install *any* OS other than 2.3 for some reason. I've tried the other installers but they stall. It looks like there is probably a hardware issue, as my last update explained.

Hi,
Sometimes the floppy drives on these units become corrupted and will not install the OS. My suggestion is there was a guy on Ebay selling CF cards with the OS already installed. Might save you a lot of headaches.

Hi Mike, I do already have a CF card with an OS image provided by another member here, and the board does not recognize it (or anything else for that matter). The issue appears to be hardware related, I am planning to ebay the whole deal as-is here in the coming weeks. I am not going to spend any more time with it, I apparently bought a lemon and have put too much time into trying to get this revived. Thanks everyone for the input!
