Mixing...

I've been a big fan of using drawn volume envelopes for mixing on DAWs for a long time. I'm getting ready to start mixing about 2 hours worth of material (my band, live) for a video we're making (promotional). I recorded it w/ my d8b and my HDR. This is my first real project w/ this system, which I put together in the past year.
For some reason, the manual for the HDR says something to the effect of not using the envelopes for full mixes ( or somesuch nonsense). I'm schizoid about using a fader based automation...do any of you regulars use envelope based mixing? pros and cons? Will I love faders!????

thanks,
Eric

Screw the automation. mixing on the fly is one of the best adrenalin rushes you could have for a 2 hr show! I do mostly live performances for TV, not live TV, but still have to mix down a 90-120min show once a week. Just take it one song at a time.
Good luck I'd like to see a link when your done.

Why would it say not to use volume envelopes? I draw a ton on the HDR and I write a ton of fader moves on the d8b too. I also mix on the fly while doing all of this to boot. There is no reason not to do what ever blows your skirt up.
