Logic HUI and MIDI Mapping

Postby NigelC » Fri Jul 09, 2010 12:53 pm

A question for any MIDI geniuses out there. Have given this more thought and read through the link on MIDI Mapping.

The conclusion did not sound too hopeful: "Note that many of the consoles values are 8-bit resolution (255 values). Since midi conventionally sends only 128 values (two byte MSB/LSB precision is not supported by the d8b), intermediate steps will be interpolated by the d8b"

I have studied the Logic Manual and there is a Resolution of Relative Controls slider: The default resolution is 128 steps but this can be changed.

So my questions:

1. Would adjusting this resolution in Logic make any difference or is the lack of two byte MSB/LSB precision coming from the D8B always going to scupper this?

2. In HUI mode is this same resolution discrepancy present (I assume it is as this is just some kind of MIDI Map right?)?

3. Is the resolution issue only a problem when controlling Logic via the D8B or when controlling the D8B via Logic or both?
