D8B Freezing?

Hi again everyone,

It seems this D8B has been having one problem after another...

Current issue:

Board and software freeze after being on for a short period of time, around 30 mins or so. Everything functions great up until then. Most of the time it happens when the board is just sitting waiting to be used and nothing is happening.

Any ideas? Diagnostics I can run?

I just re did the RAM to fix a boot issue, HD was swapped some time ago to SSD... Besides that I can't think of anything else unique about this setup... 3x ADAT light pipe cards are hooked up to a PC / Cubase / Pro Tools, HUI is running great. When the board freezes I can still see and hear audio coming back from the PC, but all controls and software are totally frozen.

Thanks in advance!

No you dont have to replace the serial connector. What tou need to do is check your fuses in the power supply box in the cpu unit. There are 4 fuses in there that you need to check. If one is blown that will cause freezes once the psu heats up.

NEXT, check the cable/molex connector coming from off the power supply board (behind the power socket) feeding the dsp board.

Good tip, thank you! I will check those out ASAP!

I did try disconnecting the Midi breakout cable and disabling HUI, and it actually stayed on without freezing... I have to try it a few more times to confirm that it wasn't a fluke, but that might be something...

In my case it was the mouse and keyboard.
But my console was still working at that time.
My mouse and keyboard got frozen and I was forced to re start every 15 min or so....

After replacing that card it has never happened again.
I could see the ECD something never was updated correctly in the boot up sequence.../

Hmm, no luck finding any faults with fuses or connectors... I just re seated the RAM, currently waiting to see if it freezes again.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I've had someone else suggest that it's a power supply fault, so I've ordered a new one... Hoping!

UPDATE!

I have discovered that if the DAW computer (my unit with Cubase, etc) is NOT on, the D8B does not freeze... I'm thinking that either it being on causes the D8B to work harder and fail due to an issue with itself, or that there is some setting somewhere that is causing an issue between my DAW and the D8B.

My DAW is connected to the D8B via:
ethernet (for file backups)
SPDIF - RME HDSP 96/52
ADAT Light pipe x3 - RME HDSP 96/52
MIDI for HUI - RME HDSP 96/52

The DAW is Win7 Home Premium 64bit, everything updated.

Could one of these connections in particular cause a freeze? Or is it that when the DAW is not on the D8B doesn't work as hard and fail?

To recap, the freeze only happens when the DAW and the D8B are on. Nothing needs to be happening to cause the freeze, sitting idling on the desktop for enough time does it... and the setup does function great for the first 30-45 mins of being on

Thanks for any help!

UPDATE!

Disconnected Midi, ethernet, and SPDIF... Set my RME card to 'Internal' for sample rate (instead of clocking off of the D8B) and NO FREEZING!

Not sure which component is causing the freeze when it's all hooked up, will test more this week.
