Hello Guys -

Trying to assist a friend of mine in getting HUI control out of his D8B setup. However, when we get everything hooked up, we get a error message on the Pro Tools 10 window, that says that "HUI controller cannot be found. Please turn power off and power on device again." or something like that...

Here is the setup:

Mackie D8B running OS 5.1
HP cpu
Protools 10 (bootleg version)
USB to Midi cable

I have checked the midi in/out connections to make sure that they are lined up correctly. But nothing.

Pro Tools sees the USB to MIDI cable and opens the midi ports, but, the mackie isnt responding i guess.

Startup procedure:
1. Boot on the CPU
2. Boot on mackie d8b
3. Put mackie in HUI mode
4. Open Pro Tools
5. Setup > Periphials > Midi Controllers. Set the HUI as shown in pick
6. Go back to main screen and error box pops up.

Any ideas????

I suppose I have to admire you for admitting to using a bootleg version of PT but... seriously!

HUI usually works with anything that supports the protocol.

Yes, he is running a D/L version of Pro Tools 10, I'm not familiar with Pro Tools at all, but, as you said, its usually pretty simple to setup any controllers for that matter. But for some reason in this case Protools doesn't connect the D8b.

Does anyone have a similar setup and can offer any help? Is there a .DLL file or something missing for HUI control?

your send and receive device should be the same. It looks as if you have 2 different devices specified for these actions

Its the same device I think. The way I understood this usb-to-midi cable worked is it simulated 2 ports, one for send & one for receive so thus the 2 different ports...same midi to usb cable.

In the selection window it does have the same usb2.0 to midi, just the other is listed as midiout (usb2.0 to midi).

So ill try to list both as the thing and see what happens.

UPDATE: i figured out the issue a couple of days after my last post....the USB-to-midi cable doesnt work on this device. I hooked up 2 straight midi cables to my digi003 and turned on HUI mode and the damn thing fired up like a charm! Go figure!
